i understand the reaosn for naming phones something cool and tredy so people can refer to it in conversation. But the "razr", "blade", "the V", those names make sense. They somewhat describe the phone in a general sense. What does chocolate have to do with anything. It isn't a traditional "candybar" style phone since its a slider, i hope to god it isn't brown (looks blackish in the pics), and i hope they don't make a lame reference to melting in your mouth, not in your hand or something.

and come on, throw a 2 megapixel camera in it. otherwise its just a sliding 8300

how does the "V" make sense? what does that have to do with anything that phone does or how it looks? you only think it makes sense because of good marketing. and if verizon and lg do their job here, chocolate will make sense too. although i will admit the style of the phone and the numeric keypad that's used in current models is much more chocolate bar looking than the verizon one.

i wonder if verizon is telling manufacturers it doesn't want anything bigger than a 1.3 mp camera, because if memeory serves me correct, the chocolate is shipping with 2 mp everywhere else.

that's what i get for thinking out loud. i conveniently forgot the a970 and a990.

also, i can't really single out verizon for sticking to 1.3 mp when it's the resolution the bulk of phones on most carriers are at. however i thought we would see a shift to 2 mp by the end of the year, with 1 (or 2) 3 mp models on most carriers as a high end cameraphone.

I'm hoping that the reasoning for sticking with 1.3 megapixels is... common sense.

Until manufacturers start including higher-grade optics than the pinhole lens that the bulk of camera phones currently use there's not much point in going beyond 1.3 megapixels.

Include an autofocus lens and more pixels makes sense. There are a couple of phones out now (or coming soon) with real optics, but not many.

well on VZW network, if they put anything higher than a 1.3 mp camera on their phones, then you wouldn't be able to send higher resolution pictures to other vzw members, seeing how they limit the size of the picture message you can receive. i believe they cap picture messages a little under 100kb. i'm not sure about the a970 with the 2mp camera sending pix and flix over that amount though.

when you take a pic on the 970 and try to send it, it down-converts the resolution. I would imagine it will be similar in the 990 when it is released. The only way to get the pics off unaltered is to use the memory card and transfer direct to your computer. I wish they had this on the 9800 (the V for this topic) as i can take video at twice the resolution as is allowed to be sent.

the V makes sence (although I wouldn't have gone the same route had i been in marketing*) cause thats what it looks like when you fold it open, from the side of course.

*as you mentioned, it has worked though, so what do i know

Must not have been THAT good of marketing, because I had no idea what you guys were talking about (re: the V) until I finished reading this thread.

We call it the 9800. I had no idea it had another name. And we publish games on that phone!

The Chocolate phone was originally released in Korea and the black model of it had the scent of chocolate. The white had the scent of lavendar and the pink the scent of roses.

It's a name that was popular in Korea. The Korean and European versions look a lot sleeker (thus the Chocolate Bar look) which is probably why they chose it. This is probably a good example of how marketing a single name across different cultures can be difficult.

how much more difficult can it be to market a phone called "the chocollate" in the US than to do it in Europe? It's less sleek bc they wanted it to hade the D pad to make it look like an Ipod, which I think is a mistake; not a big one though, 'cause people will like it, but the original look was better.

On the Internet, all-caps is considered shouting. Standard "netiquette" is that it's rude.

It's also hard to read.

For those reasons, most people I know dislike reading things people have written in all-caps.

I'm just trying to give helpful advice. Trust me - you'll get along better with people here (and on most sites) by not writing in all-caps.
