Save your money and do not give your sub 17 year old a cell phone.

On top of that, if they don't have a phone, they'd be uncool - and parents can't have their kids be uncool! Besides, it might just make the kids responsible too, and we can't have that either.....

Well, that's a pretty short sighted view of things... My now ten year old grandchild has had a prepaid cell phone for two years now. Excessive? Not at all. He has a noncustodial parent who is a convicted felon with issues who has threatened to kidnap him. With a cell phone he can always dial 911 for an emergency and if the phone is on we can triangulate to find him. If my daughter doesn't put him on KidConnect on her account I'll probably do it myself on mine because twenty bucks a month is a small price to pay for the safety of a child.
