that's a very good idea, definitely would hate it if my child kept signing up for those reoccurring charges.

yeah, but at the same time how profitable will that $20/month come in? This is a good idea however carriers do offer phones and features which can restrict calls, text messaging, downloads, etc. and with add-a-lines being $9.99/month I see this as a better option.

But with those you have to buy a new phone or agree to a new contract for the new/restricted phone. With T-mobile's, you can use any GSM handset you already have. And profit for the company, do you know how much air-time actually cost's a cellphone company? They only lose money on giving away those phones.

Customer Service is not free.
Electricity is not free.
Technicians to maintain the network don't work for free.
I'm sure the gov't taxes them somewhere along the line as well.

So, yes, airtime is profitable, but not so much as people would like to think.

This way, the kid is pretty much restricted to calling the family, whi...

T-Mobile doesnt let you restrict text messaging or t-zones. So really this is a great deal over the add-a-line because kids have all the freedom to go over on a regular account... on their own account they are in charge!
