Rich / Eric - Any word on the screen resolution?

I'm hoping the Sidekick 3 has a QVGA screen (320 x 240) but many are saying that it's going to be same as the Sidekick 2 which is 240 x 160. Do you have any concrete info?

there were a few screen shots in the manual, all which had the same block look as the current screen. it's unlikely the resolution was improved.

If that's the case then Danger dropped the ball on that spec. You're going to add all these features and then stick with the same resolution. Viewing web pages on a 240 x 160 screen is going to be very annoying. At lease a QVGA screen will be better. Most of the smartphones with keyboards that have been released in the last 6 months are QVGA.

I imagine the reason was to keep the software platform simple and stable.

It's vastly easier for Danger to support only one screen resolution. Moving to a new resolution would have meant completely overhauling the whole UI. Also any UI tweaks / changes would then be much harder to back-port to the SK I and II. They'd have to support two different UIs instead of just one.

Perhaps more importantly, they would make things difficult for developers. They've already had a tough enough time attracting 3rd-party developers to the platform... To change the screen resolution would make things very difficult for developers, who would have to re-do their UIs to fit the new screen size, and then have to support two versions of their software - for ...

Rich, you make some good points but I don't think it would be difficult for developers to make 2 versions of their programs, one for 240 x 160 and another for 320 x 240. Plus QVGA is more of a standard resolution than 240 x 160. A lot of cell phone manufacturers (not just Motorola) have standardized on 176 x 220. I haven't seen any other cell phones with 240 x 160.

I think the benefits of a QVGA screen would outweigh any of the negatives. Plus I don't think they can stay at 240 x 160 in all future Sidekicks. It may not sound like much of a difference but you get twice as many pixels with a QVGA screen over their current 240 x 160 screen. 240 x 160 has 38400 pixels and 320 x 240 has 76800 pixels. That's a big difference when you're ...

Rich or Eric, when will they release the full specs, like what class EDGE it has, if its Quad-band or Tri-band, and other features, that people are anxious to find out? Thanks.

They'll announce it when they announce it...

From the FCC documents, I can say that it definitely has GSM 850 and 1900.

They also indicate that it's quad-band, but that is mentioned in a notoriously unreliable place, so it still could be tri-band 850/1800/1900.
