Most companies have been doing this for a while now, I know the play store does this already and I believe the Apple store doesn't this as well.

The iPhone App Store started requiring passwords for every purchase only after being hammered with exactly this kind of lawsuit.

It seems obvious 'protect your customers' but many companies are only willing to do that when they are forced to, the lure of making easy money off of stupid people who buy stuff they don't intend, is too hard them for resist.
