Browser/Speed?

One line in their review that I found really interesting:

One thing of note, the EV-DO radio did not necessarily make for super snappy browsing. In side-by-side tests, the iPhone, running on AT&T's EDGE network, often loaded pages faster.

Has anyone used both devices and noticed such a difference?

LoL, this is not possible, the average rate difference between EVDO and EDGE is at least 10x.

But the reviewer is not lying, most likely when the test was done the iphone was connected via WiFi, which could be faster than EVDO.

Im pretty sure the owners of phonescoop would note such an advantage. Why cant some people fathom the fact that sometimes hardware can make an internet connection generally concieved as being slow, fast? Yea sure EVDO is fast, and EDGE isnt as fast when you look at their theoretical speeds, but when the hardware cant handle the network, it puts a strain on how fast the phone can compute the website thus making the overall experience slower.

Of course they would. I tested this phone out and the browser is pretty slow. Very hard to navigate around also. Didn't like it one bit.

Just because you have a fast connection if the hardware or software is slow then you will surf slow. Fast connection isn't everything.

I have both devices. It varies, sometimes the Iphone does load pages faster than the Voyager, and sometimes the Voyager is faster. The reason why they are so close, althought the Voyager has 3G, is that the Iphone is a smartphone and thus has a much faster/more powerful processor. Any smartphone would be faster than the Voyager, which is not a smartphone. If they both were tethered, then you'd see a huge speed difference. I've tethered with the Voyager, and I've gotten over 600k many times.

Yes, it's more than connection speed. In most instances, the iPhone will feel faster, and will in many cases load the page faster.

The Voyager tends to lag a bit when loading a page, and lags some more when scrolling around. (Actually, it lags a LOT when scrolling around a large site like Yahoo.com, although it renders it nicely.)

I have no idea if you are being serious or sarcastic ...

... I'll assume you are being serious. EV-DO=3G technology. VZW had EVDO about 3 years ago?

EVDO is defined in the first sentence as "
(EV-DO)
Part of a family of CDMA2000 1x digital wireless standards" and also as "Data Only"
CDMA2000 a.k.a. 2G,
3G includes both voice and data.
So, yes, the person mocking you was being sarcastic.
