"This pact will allow Sprint to catch up with Verizon's EV-DO footprint, which covers a wider area than Sprint's, without the cost of building out its network."

That makes a whole lot of sense.

Let the uneducated compare:

(This information is off of their websites)

VZW BroadbandAccess is available in 181 major metropolitan areas covering over 148 million people, and is expanding coast to coast. BroadbandAccess is available in 72 primary airports in the U.S.

Sprint Mobile Broadband service is currently available in 466 major U.S. airports coast-to-coast. Sprint now offers Mobile Broadband in more than 220 Markets; covering over 150 million customers.

Now, who has the largest EVDO network?

Thanks, I was just looking this info up as well. Verizon I guess has the largest "area", but covers less people. Doesn't make sense for data coverage. Sprint has tons more EVDO coverage in Delaware over Verizon, which is all I care about. Sprint will be 100% covered here by year's end as well.

Does Alltel even have a lot of EVDO? Some areas along I-95 in NC didn't even have 1X coverage in 2004!! Plus, Alltel's network in Myrtle Beach sucks ☚ī¸ GSM rules there

Sprint turned on "clusters" of towers when they launched EVDO. They figured out which ones they wanted to be on by looking at which sites had the most usage. Sounds simple enough... and I'm still not sold on the idea that VZW has a larger footprint, but oh well. What cracks me up is that VZW has been advertising VCAST like crazy, but dont offer it in a ton of places that they advertise.

I'm not sure Alltel has even launched the EVDO yet. I know they have said they were going to, but thats all. I'm sure one of the brainwashed Alltel employees in here would be able to answer us that.

I don't understand why Verizon advertises here in Oklahoma at all, when they have NO service anywhere here.

Obviously, T-Mobile does. Because they have kumquats while Sprint uses oranges and Verizon uses apples.
