Has anyone else heard anything about this feature being put into place with any other service. I know myself and a lot of the guys I work with use Nextel.

Remember all this is is tower access nothing more. Sprint is the ONLY company that owns their own towers sop they didn't have to wait for anyone to implement this. this was proven in 9/11 and katrina, first responders were the only phones who had acces to sprint towers

Sprint (NYSE: FON) today announced that it has closed its previously announced agreement with Global Signal Inc. (NYSE: GSL) under which Global Signal will have the exclusive right to lease or operate approximately 6,600 communications towers from Sprint for 32 years. Sprint received approximately $1.2 billion in cash for the transaction.
Under the terms of the transaction, Global Signal has the exclusive right to lease or operate the Sprint towers and will take over existing collocation arrangements with tenants who currently lease space on these towers.
