Looks much better than sk2

Was checking out the specs and pictures of the sk3 other than ones posted on PS. It is actually 20% smaller than the sk2. Looks very stylish. One of the major differences is the keypad. The buttons are hard top instead of soft buttons that fall apart. And the removable battery will make the troubleshooting a lot easier.

She means that smart access customers can't add the Sidekick data plan to their plan since it puts them over the rate plan limit. Since they have restrictions on their account, the system won't let them add any feature $19.99 or over if they have a $39.99 or higher rate plan.

Actually, no, T-Mobile doesn't even allow SmartAccess customers to activate the stand-alone rate plan or add it to the 29.99 voice plan. I think this is (and this is informed speculation, so take it as that, please) simply because they expected a shortage of SK2s and the SmartAccess customers are statistically much more likely to churn, thus "wasting" the device and losing T-Mobile money. It's kind of ironic, since a lot of 18-25-year-olds come up SmartAccess since they have no credit history, and what's the target market for Sidekicks... ? Heh.

I bought a used sidekick2 and was told by customer service that there is no longer a plan for the sidekicks on smart access. I'll have had my account for 1 year on July 12 so I'll be able to upgrade to a normal post paid plan at that point barring 2 non pay disconnects. I may just go buy a prepaid sidekick sim in the mean while and forward my number. I use about 200 minutes a month now and use data a lot more than voice.

Just activated a prepaid sidekick. It's just $1 a day so use that for unl text and data. Make sure you don't talk on it because it is 15 cents a minute on the SK2 prepaid plan. So instead of paying (example) $39.99 + $20.00, you would be paying $39.99 + $30.00 ($1 per day, average of 30 days per month)

Actually you are almost 100% correct w/ your speculation vaspider. The reason why you cannot even be on a sk2 price plan anymore for smax account types IS because were actually going to be getting rid of the smax account types and trasfering them over to something else.I was wondering....what price plan would those account types have?? Would smax account types even be ABLE to buy the sk3? I mean I'm sure they would be..but what whould they want it for...to use it as a phone...mmm..I don't think so. Everyone might as well switch to prepaid who's smax and wants to get the sk3 and use a data rate plan. 😕

SmartAccess is going to be replaced by TakeControl, which is out in several markets right now, including one of the two markets I sell in (I'm in a "border" store). Take Control is... not really set up very well for data, to be frank. I hope they don't get it moved out of "pilot market" status and into full-blown release status before they get it worked out for data. See, right now you can't put any kind of data on TakeControl at all. It works exactly the same way as prepaid does with regards to text and t-zones.

So no, Take Control rate plan users will not be able to buy the Sidekick 3 because the SK doesn't work properly without the attached data plan.

The perils of working in a pilot market are you get stuck with all the stuff they're testing. 🙂

I don't like the screen... It looks even more fragile than SK2... LCD screens break too easily on SKs! I don't like the way the buttons are set in... At least the SK2 LCD screen had some protection from the jump pad and scroll wheel...

Speaking of SK2, I'm having a hard time finding another SK2 - I just broke my SK2 this past Thursday... The LCD screen is cracked... So, SK3 looks even worse than SK2 (more fragile)... If there was a way to protect the LCD screen from breakage, that'd be great!

Then again, my phone was run over by a car (while inside the holster)... Looks like an elephant stepped on it! But the hardware is intact. The LCD screen is not.

I hear a lot of complaints about the Sidekick LCD screen - that it's too fragile ...

hence it wouldnt be a sidekick 🤣

but honestly the sk doesnt have that many problems with th screen as many think. the owners mostly kids tend to be rougher on devices. and things like lcd's get broken

i think they changed the design of the keypad due the "unglueing" or peeling problems associated with the sk2(ive gone through 3 devices because of that)

u can find decent sk2's on ebay for around 70 used and its not hard 2 instal a new display
