The difis huge!!! The MDA is a Pocket PC Phone with Windows Mobile 5. The Side Kick has a Internet browser, text/IM and email clients and thats it. The MDA is a full blown PDA, while the side kick is a phone with a keyboard and internet browser.

Wow, that's ...wrong. The Sidekick does a lot that the MDA doesn't, and does something no Windows Mobile-based phone has ever done -- allows me to connect to a shell server without dropping every ten seconds or restricting me to sixty characters. There are a lot of programs written for the Sidekick, and unlike Windows Mobile, the Danger OS doesn't crash, choke, and lose your data every three seconds like my old iPaq did.

The Sidekick does almost everything (as in: everything but corporate email) the MDA does in terms of functionality, and it does one thing no other phone I have ever seen does: over-the-air data backup and synchronization. Mmm. Instant backup of all my contacts, emails, photos and other data. It keeps full calendar ...

I'll take the Microcrap product over a ****kick any day...just form factor alone...damn that beast is ugly as sin, where as the MDA at least looks nice.

So you'd rather a pretty phone that doesn't work than a phone you think is less attractive that DOES work and doesn't crash and lose your data four times a day? The return rate on MDAs due to defects and continuous crashing is ridiculous.

I mean, if you really want a pretty phone that doesn't work, I can sell you a picture of a phone... it'll be just about as useful as the average MDA.

Unlike most people, I know how to find patches for Windows...so, yeah, I'll take the MDA still. To this day, I haven't had any problems with a Windows powered mobile device that wasn't fixed with a patch or two.

And I don't go with the flow to be "hip" or "cool" like the idiots that have bought the last two excuses for and "internet" browser that the incredibly slow as hell ****kicks were. Oh, yes...they were so "great"...I was browsing the web with my Java browser faster on my V600 faster that my friends with their ****kick, nevermind e-mail support, and Bluetooth.

I'll save my feelings on the new one until I get my hands on one to test.

Like I said -- I carry my Sidekick because it's the only device I've ever found that allows me to connect to a Unix shell account without dropping me every three seconds. All the telnet and SSH clients I ever found for Palm OS or Windows crashed constantly or had a 60 character limit.

So much for being "cool." I want my phone to work for what I want it to work for, and the Sidekick is the only one that does so.

I've had a Sidekick with an updated browser/accelerator right next to an MDA. I've found little to no difference in my experience in the web speed, practically speaking, and the OS on the MDA is much more stable out of the box. You don't have to do a little dance and stand on your head to make the SK nota continually-crashing p...

It's automatically sent out to you. Look at the picture of the girl on the main splash screen. If it looks like she's holding the phone out to the side of her head and you can see the whole SK screen (like the SK1) then you haven't gotten the update. If it's tucked in and you can only see the end of the screen (as it would look like if you were talking on the SK2) then you have already gotten the update.

You mentioned that the "Danger OS" doesnt crash but from what I understand this phone is now being manufactured by Sharp... does that mean a different OS??? And the phone is still ugly... 😁 ... I'd rather wait until I find a phone that both works and looks nice... this SK3 looks like the size of a PSP....

To the best of my knowledge, the physical phone is manufactured by Sharp but the software is still made by Danger, much the same as a Dell computer runs Windows.

Sharp has been manufacturing the sidekick for a long time...

Sharp simply makes it, Danger creates it.
