for the most part, different metro areas. there are 3 or 4 of these fixed rate unlimited calling carriers, metro and criket are the biggest 2. from what i know, each has a different game plan. they each try to cover a different sized market. metro has fewer markets but they go for the really densely populated ones (sf, miami, detroit, DFW, etc). criket has far more locales and tends to cover the small but growing areas. There's also revol and a few others scattered around the country.

I think they have a few better phones..

Cricket deals mainly with Kyocera, Motorola, & Audiovox

Metro PCS with Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorla, & Audiovox

Metro's also testing evdo now, theres a little concern that a metro consumer isnt really a data costomer though.

Cricket, actually lease's out other carriers lines. Where as Metro PCS builds out there own spectrum. Metro is now in agreement with Verizon to allow Metro customers to roam on there various networks through out the U.S.

Metro will also be launching EVDO, very shortly.

The jist; Cricket and Metro offer similiar business models..that operate on two different technoligies. Cricket will not be around past 2 years...at least that is my opnion. They are struggling. Metro pcs has four more markets they are launching..all with in the next 18 months.
