"The application allows parents to register up to four Sprint phones, find their location(s) and send the messages."

hmm... I don't see anything here about kids being able to track each other or track their parents... I could be misinterpreting.

In any event you could tell your parents your going to someones house, leave your cell phone there and then actually go somewhere else. Of course anyone actually thinking of doing this would probably need a 2nd cell phone like a pre-paid so they could still keep in touch with other people if they're going to leave their phones like that.

Then again though, if the phone is left somewhere and your parents send you a text... u'd kinda be screwed...

I dunno... just a thought...

All VZW LBS includes a privacy management app that allows a user to always provide their location, or only when they want to allow it. I would assume that sprint will also have something like this for its paranoid adult customers.

By the way, does sprint currently have a "kid phone" like the Migo or the Firefly? Thats clearly the target for these services...

sprint doesn't have a "kid phone" like you are referring too, however you can lock the phone so that you can only make calls to people in the phonebook. If you go the nextel direction you restrict incoming and outgoing cellular calls, and only allow the 2 way. You can restrict that to the phonebook as well

The idea of a little kid using a nextel to "chirp" his parents just really tickles me... 🤣

Sprint has a Nextel division for buisness users and Sprint for consumers as well as buisnesses.

I feel pretty confident if the government wants to track you, they don't need to use Sprint's family locator system.

No play on words my good friend. "Big Brother" was a term that George Orwell used in his book "1984" to describe the leader of the totalitarian society.

People use the term nowadays in that same fashion.

By the way, I agree w/ the first post. I like to fly under the radar....

Area51 is correct, but also wrong. That big brother term was used in his book 1984 but you missed the whole point of the title. It makes people think he is going to talk about that type of "big brother" but, after reading the post it is an actual kids big brother. Not everything is about the government.
