Sprint will announce their 4G solution in Q2 of this year. I'll save you the suspense, it will be Wimax. It will be triple the speed of Rev B, you won't have to pay Qualcomm royalty fees, and Intel plans to ship Wimax as part of all notebook chips starting next year. See www.motorola.com/wi4

Sprint is researcing multiple options for 4G, including the former Flarion, now Qualcomm technology. Last I read was that 802.16 had a little trouble keeping up with a fast moving vehicle. 802.16 will be implemented in publicly held wireless broadband networks.
Until Sprint makes an announcement, we just don't know.

sprint may choose the official wimax (802.16) but it is possible that frank the tank is using wimax to mean any ofdm-based technology. this is pretty common, even amongst mobile experts. it's very confusing.

sprint has invested in a number of 4G technologies, wimax and flash ofdm among them. it is hard to say what they will pick. it will not just be what works best in mobile situations, but also what works best in the various spectrum that sprint has for 4g technologies. don't count anyone out yet.

Who needs 4G? It's pointless.

HSDPA class 10 and EVDO Rev B are both capable of 3x the download speed of my cable modem, and I don't even use all of THAT speed at home on my desktop.

We don't need any more download speed, at least not until upload speeds are dramatically improved.

HSUPA and EVD0 Rev A/B are both equivalent to a cable modem when it comes to upload speed. That's good enough for most people, but not (necessarily) good enough for a hard-core business user on the go.

Get higher upload speeds in place and then think about increasing download speeds.
