IF HTC makes the U.S> version available, how long before it makes it through the carrier pipeline? Any insight from a carrier person?

It's not even an issue of when the carriers will have it, though I would certainly want to be among the first to buy this device. From my understanding (and I certainly could be wrong), having the WCDMA/HSDPA infrastructure to really make this device reach it's full potential is still quite a ways off (two years +/- ?). We're only recently to the point where EDGE (as opposed to just plain old GPRS) is widely available and accessible.

Again, maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that the network upgrades need to happen before the difference between this device and the current "Wizard" platform will really become evident.

The infrastucture is being built now. UTMS / HSDPA is up in 16+ cities with the major part of the rollout for Cingular will be done by 2007. I'm currently using the 3G card in my notebook & am getting DL speed up to 1.5Mb.

Generally it appears Cingular is 6mo to 1yr behind when bringing out devices.

I want one now...
