But really, was anyone going to use that patient for anything massive or significant? We know the answer to that.

Apple should pay them fairly of course - but being real for a second, they were the only ones who were making significant use of it.

Any REAL scientist or inventor doesn't patient ideas/inventions. If you don't believe me, watch Cosmos - so many geniuses opted out of making a fortune or claiming intellectual property, because they were interested in FAR more than just money or fame.

Yes in a utopian society no one would, but this is capitalism

I'm glad Apple is getting it's a$$ served to them on a platter. Like the prior person posted......it's KARMA, what you sow you reap!!

My brain hurts reading your post. I presume that you meant to use the word PATENT instead of PATIENT, but cannot understand the basic premise of your post. You ask "was anyone going to use that patient for anything massive or significant?". Obviously yes, as a prior suit against Intel was settled out of court - read the Reuters article!

And your statement about real scientists/inventors not patenting ideas/inventions, Thomas Edison had over 2000 patents, Nikola Tesla about 300. Are you saying that neither of them were real scientists or inventors?

Yes, autocorrect does things. If you read fast it wouldn't occur to you based on the context - but it appears you read like a 5th grade child.

I'm saying REAL scientists that care about progress for mankind don't hinder others from progression - they share their ideas and inventions. It's called science. As said, go watch Cosmos if you're eluded to who actually made a difference in this world.

And no, these people were never going to implement this to the degree Apple has. Therefore, pay them if they whine about it and move on. If they were going to use it, they would have YEARS ago, since they're accusing Apple of using is in their iPhone 5 devices.

I fail to understand what you mean by "these people". WARF, the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, was established to own patents developed under the research done at the University of Wisconsin and license those patents to others, raising funds for advancement of other research and programs at UW. Probably the best known product they developed was WARFARIN, an anticoagulant which was licensed to drug companies and commonly sold under the brand name Coumadin.

Patents do not impede scientific progress, but provides compensation for the years of research and training that goes in to the development of the product and its use.

As for reading like a 5th-grader, it is difficult to read at a higher level when the subject matter is develo...

Okay. I said Apple should pay them fairly. What didn't I cover? I didn't give Apple a free pass - you're acting like a biased fanboy, and or hater of Apple.

They're amazing at taking current ideas and technology - implementing them to a vast majority of consumers. If 'WARF' was so amazing, they would've used this scientific technology, or shared it to others.

What it amounts to, is you're pissed off that someone used something and made a massive success out of it. How far do PATENTS go before we get to the point where people just use them for power, money and control? They do in fact hinder scientific and technological advancements. If someone can build upon an idea, improve it and make it wildly successful, you're telling me you...

Uhh what? Einstein must not be a real scientist because that was a pantent.
This isnt some pantent troll. This was something that was held and yeah its a small group that couldnt do much with it

I fear you're a loser who self validates themself due to to an underlying insecurity - forcing you to prove your own worth to yourself.

Must suck.

And damn, still eluded to context where your brain can't fill in the assumed following word? You're like Ben Carson - genius neurosurgeon - yet an idiot in every other regard.

Christ - I concur with the notion they should be paid. I've said it since my first post.

If some nobodies aren't going to use or take advantage of a patent, let someone use it and just pay them.

For all the good patents can do, they also hinder. Think of medicine. Do you know how expensive and unaffordable they make those drugs with just pure greed and profit in mind, when some could save countless lives.

And before you say it, I realize there's costs associated with R&D for a drug - fact is, they milk the absolute **** out of it. Real moral and ethical.

Not everything is black or white.
