becuase the 2g handsets wont perform well against the 3g handsets.. the 3g handsets will be on highier data speeds with lower latency then the 2g handsets..

not true. if someone uses a 3G phone is an EDGE covered area, the phone knows to use EDGE. Just like now if an EDGE phone is in a GPRS area, it knows what to do. Latency is not an issue.

yes latency is an issue.. the lower the latency is the better/more features and data speeds you can have on your phone..

3g isnt edge..

its very true.

If you had an EV-DO phone that worked with analog, and you were in an analog-only area, would you want your device to function?

Alot of ppl would beg to differ, since the latest dual mode only phones are giving cust's lack of reception which they were used to when tri-mode phones were a plenty.

people shouldnt beg to differ becuase the performance on 3g phones outperform the performance on the 2g phones.

yes, with 2g phones you can still watch tv and use other features, but it will be slower and have lots of problems while 3g phones, on the other hand, is a lot differnt.

i would never accept a 2g phone if i can get a 3g phone in the area where there is 3g service...

and with sprint and verizon, while you're downloading a file on a 3g phone, what else can you do while doing that, talk???

no, u can't talk while downloading on EV DO. the DO stands for data only, and a voice call would interrupt a data transmision.

with cingular this is a key advantage: you can be talking with friends about what movie to see, and downloading trailers at the same time. sports clips? comedy? all while talking about it with friends doing the same thing 😳

not paying anything to talk to 1another(mobile2mobile), but using a lot of data! a cingular exec's wet dream

on cdma ev-do rev o, you can not talk on the phone..

the original conversation had nothing to deal with talking on the phone. lol. all i said was that 3g features are a lot better then 2g's.

No problem w/ that since all of cingular's 3g phones are compatible w/ their 2g network 🙂 Then when 3g rolls around in your area you'd be all set to go! 3g is blazing in the bay area right now, i'm loving it... just gotta wait for the nicer phones to be launched, this samsung is ugh but no problems with the sierra umts card yet.
