facial biometric security?!
I looked it up and it looks like the technology can recognize faces, mainly meant for homeland security. Why do you think they included it on a phone? I would guess the phone is going to have different customized settings that ce be changed automatically after the phone "looks at you" and recognizes you? that's all i can think of but it sound weird... especially since most cell phones have 1 user i think. maybe its for another purpose, but what???

Maybe it's just plain personal security. If the phone doesn't recognize your face, it won't let you make calls or look up info in the phonebook, etc.

It's the same reason a lot of Japanese and Korean phones have fingerprint scanners - to prevent unauthorized use of you digital wallet.
This phone - like ones with fingerprint scanners - has an NFC chip that lets the phone act like a digital wallet. Your phone can store a digital credit card, digital cash, and other things like your rail pass account. You tap it against an NFC reader to pay for things, just like a Mastercard PayPass card, Chase Blink card, etc. You've probably already seen the readers here at stadiums and convenience stores - it's the same technology.
If your phone gets stolen, you can de-activate it remotely, but it's even more secure if you have to prove your identity for each transaction.

thanks rich. that makes sense. I just didnt realize they were multitasking these phones so much. I wonder how good the recog. technology is... like what if 2 identical twins tried to use the same phone?
...
then it would probably let them......key word being identical.

but if someone has to be your identical twin to use your card, it kinda limits the list of suspects for theft, now doesn't it?
