Does this mean that they get shut off these next few days?

That would not be cool.

I don't think so. I think that service will continue until a ruling is made.

So now, all RIM has to do, is drag the trial out.

Fun.

haha i doubt that would work.... most people would give up their left arm to avoid jury duty, nevermind a blackberry...

Actually if rim called me and wanted me as a witness to how important that my 7290 is to me for school, work and business. I'd jump at the chance. Most people would I think.

Here's the solution:

"Free Blackberry with testimony"

All of a sudden, people are lining up.

or settle and the trial and potential injunction will go away.

Doesn't sound like NTP is too interested in settling.....

Otherwise, they would have solved it already.

the problem is, they should becuase if there is an injunction against them and Rimm doesnt settle, then NTP doesnt get a dime from them.

it is best to settle to get it over with to allow for both parties to get what they want.

1. if it settles, NTP gets paid
2. if it doesnt settle and the injunction is enforced NTP doesnt get paid.
3. Rimm wins the case and NTP loses and doesnt get paid

i would rather go with number 1 then take my chances with the other options, (well option).

there is also a grace period as previously posted by myself if there is an injunction to be enforced by the judge for consumers to switch. (30-90 days.)

If you believe RIM, they have a workaround ready to go.

well, this could be some problems becuase they cant really first implement it without going through the courts and making sure it doesnt violate any of NTP's patents.. once OKED then they have to upload it onto every server and perhaps every blackberry which takes a lot of recalls and problems... this isnt so easy with the workaround solution.

by the way, NTP could also sue RIMM about the workaround solution, if it is going to be released.

no... the service wont be shut off for at least 30-90 days for the grace period to let consumers switch if the injunction will be enforced.
