WMA is crap to listen to. I know it's not currently where the money's at, but it'd be nice if Moto would do something revolutionary in this industry and support a format like ogg.

In addition, they have the multi-billion dollar assets --why don't they jump intot he fray with their own deal?

Actually, at this point, anybody, Napster, Real, Apple is better than Microsoft who's not established in the market of selling the music at all. All they have essentially is the resource TO be able to roll something out, and a codec that sucks due to high file size and low quality.

Yeah WMA is lame. I always have volume issues when I make cd's from WMA. It always turns out quieter than my AAC or MP3 formatted stuff. And it sounds worse too. Alot of artifacting in the high range. I was just fine without WMA licensing in mobile phones....

Except for the fact that WMA PRO is becoming a popular format for carriers launching their own music stores (along with all the DRM and tranport technologies the carriers are purchasing from MS to launch the services).

You always have to remember, we are the consumers to the cell phone manufacturers, not the customers. The customers are the carriers and they ultimately dictate what technologies they want the manufacturer to support.
