What About Infrastructure?

Purchasing all the spectrum in the world will not automatically equate to more coverage. Better in metro areas? Perhaps. However, these carriers can't just say they are going to add a tower here or place antennae there on that stucture. There is much red tape involved with ordinance and code variations that are often handed declined approvals from towns and villages in rural areas, even suburbs.

We must keep in mind that VZW and ATT have coverage mostly by way of merges and acquisitions of smaller rural carriers over many years; not by building new towers. T-Mobile,Sprint and Dish would have a particularly hard time to negotiate further additions to existing structures and/or new towers. And even if approved, the money to build or add is...

I seriously doubt that either Sprint or Tmobile will ever expand much beyond cities and towns located near the interstate highways. However, acquiring spectrum accomplishes several things: it bolsters the coverage that they already have, it increases call and data capacity, and it improves the end-user experience and overall quality of their network.
