We can loan you $200 upfront, or we can charge you more than that over the term... which one is the deathstar going to prefer?
"Our customers prefer" whichever option we put them in, and if they don't like it, they can kick rocks.

Do research before you go dogging it. I am getting rather tired of educating people like you on the difference between the two options. If you did your proper research, you would find that non-contract options benefit the consumer in every way.

please tell me how i save money with non-contract option.

i have a old family plan with 3 lines,
only 1st line has 2GB data plan, the other 2 lines is just for calls.
i pay average about 110$-120$ a month.

i getting Galaxy S6 Edge (64GB) at 399 with contract.
will be getting Iphone6S at 199$ with contract
will be getting Note5 at 299$ with contract.

Please tell me how i save money when i pay FULL PRICE for Galaxy S6 Edge, iphone6S and Note5 at FULL PRICE.

what? i get 25$ off with Next Plan? you think they will give me 120-25-25=70$.
you think they will give me 70$ for 3 lines with their bullshit Next plan?

i believe most people like 2 years contract are those customers with "old" plan.
like i said, i pay average 110$-120$ a month plus i get the phone at subsidies price.
why would i want to PAY MORE on their new mobile share plan plus PAY full price on each phone?
to save money or even to make it even, they need to offer me a mobile share plan for 70$ a month. you think there is a 70$ mobile share plan for 3 lines?

they just jacked the price for Next plan then give you this BS about saving 25$ on mobile share plan.
that is like saying buy now and save 20,000$ on a honda when they selling the honda at 50,000$ to begin with.

Wasn't one of the main marketing "benefits" of these Next plans to allow faster phone upgrades? If you look at it that way, you aren't paying full price for the phone and you aren't paying that much more than the subsidized price if you change phones once a year. If you are on Next for two full years, I think you're doing it wrong.

I usually trade in my old phone towards the purchase of a new one, anyway, so that part doesn't bother me. But, different strokes for different folks. Leasing is not an attractive option for everyone.

So you're saying you normally pay $110-$120. Do you have a discount by any chance on there? Let's see. Their 3GB mobile share value plan is $40 for the data, $25 for the smartphone and $20 for basic phone. So that's $90. $90 for unlimited talk(which you dont have) and text(which you probably don't have either). So add on the price of the phone monthly. A GS6 is like $28 monthly. So thats 90+28= 118. Now like I said before I dont know if you have a discount or not but if you do then you're getting a phone for way cheaper(sales tax only) and you're paying for almost the same amount monthly. So how is that worse than what you have? You get way more out of your plan and you pay almost the same amount.
...

Jun 4, 2015, 11:46 AM
your next plan of 118$ only includes ONE smartphone.

yes, i have company discount, i got 18.75$ off each bill.

The fact remains that you're just wanting to keep with that you have and you're still paying for subsidiaries even after your phones are out of contract. I mean you can buzzword all you want but big blue is just giving people what they want.
It's not the days where a full retail of a phone is 300 dollars and unlimited data only used 100.mb. contracts are a huge gamble. But it's weird your offended by having to pay for your own phone

It's not bull boyo. It's called having to pay for what you buy. I know the concept is new to you but you've been paying for your devices one way or another. If you want 3 s6 edges then buy them but you're not owed them at a discount because you are a customer. The fact your defensive shows a sense of entitlement about having to pay actual cost.

"it wouldnt be the full price of three phones, the 2 basic devices wouldnt be on a next plan, theyre not smartphones"

why would i want 2 basic devices?
what i saying is i have a family plan with 3 lines, only line 1 has 2gb data, the other 2 lines is just for talking.
i paying average 110$-120$ a month.
but i ABLE to get 3 smartphones, let say Galaxy s6.
all 3 galaxy s6 at subsidies price of 199$ each.

summaries: i paying 120$ for 3 lines with 2 years contract and getting 3 smartphones like Galaxy S6 at 199$ each.

ok and you said the other two were just for talk. if they were smartphones on that old plan they would have a data plan, it wouldve been requred. so if your going to change it on the new plan lets change it on the old plan as well. be a little more consistant, because that price will change on the old plan as well

my family plan has 3 lines.
only line 1 has data, the other 2 lines is for talk, that' how it setup and i pay 120$ a month.
i able to get 3 smartphone at 199$ each.
data is not requires if you dont use smartphone on that line, example on line 2 or line3.
example. i be getting Note5 at subsidies price on line 2 upgrade. but i use this note5 on my line1 with data on it.
Line 2 is not using smartphone, so data is not requires.
i can do the same on line 3, get a smartphone and use it on my 1st line with data. line 3 data is not requires since i not using a smartphone on that.

i just use line 2 and line 3 to upgrade to smartphone, then use that smartphone on line 1 which i do have data.
data is not requires on line 2 and line 3 cus i not using smartphone on that line.

its a minimum of a $30 or $40 added to the old plan

I think I can help. What it seems like he's trying to do is do the contract upgrade on lines #2 and #3, then immediately take the smartphones off and put the basic phones back on. Most people would do this because they broke their phone and their line is not eligible for an upgrade so they just use an eligible line on the account to get a new phone. You might know it as an "upgrade steal". However, since he's talking about upgrading all 3 lines at a discount with 3 smartphones at the same time but still using non-data devices on lines #2 and #3, he's likely flipping the other 2 smartphones for a profit.

Basically he's gaming the system and is upset the carriers are doing something that might prevent that.

even if he were to do that hes wanting the price as if its gonna be three smartphones on the mobile share plan but have it as 1 smartphone and 2 basic phones on the old plan, thats a pretty decent price difference if its 2 basic phones compared to 2 smartphones

Yes I found the same scenario. It is cheaper for me to buy a phone and be tied up with a 2-year contract than 'finance or lease it'. I certainly don't want to pay $200+ in total monthly payments and not own the device after 2 years.
The carriers will have to improve on the offers if they go this route.

Look the price of contract vs.next plan is all the same in reality. If you go on contract your plan is 40 dollars not getting the 25 dollar discount to bring it down to 15 bucks. Plus you pay 199 plus tax to get a high end phone. On Next you only 15 dollars for your plan plus the installation payment and tax upfront. If you work the math it breaks down the same. The only difference is do you want to pay the bulk of the money towards the phone which is Next. Or do you want to pay the bulk of the money to the service plan. But savings only apply in certain circumstances if not no matter which you chose the cost will be about the same.

You forgot activation fees, and etf. Plus credit. At least with mobile share you can pay off early without penalty
...
voyager1

Jun 4, 2015, 4:56 PM
But even activation charges can be waived on contract if you know the way around the system. Or if you are on certain discount programs. Early termination fees are also sort of the same just coming from different ends. With the contract you have ETF and with Next you must pay off the balance of the phone if you are leaving the company.

Yes of course you can. But that wasn't my point. The point is say you get sick of at&t and still have a 300 dollar balance. You will be required to pay that in essence that is your early termination fee.
...

Jun 5, 2015, 9:28 PM
Yes, the requirement to pay off the price of the phone is a kind of backdoor ETF, but the difference is that you freedom under a no contact plan that you don't have under a contract plan. And most no-contract customers pay the full cost of the phone right away or pay it off early.

On a no contract plan, you have no upgrade fee, no activation fees and lower monthly charges. Plus, there are other benefits that no contract customers get that contract customers, such as promotions that are available only for no-contract customers, like last year's double data promotion. And you have the freedom to leave whenever you want with no penalty once you pay off the phone, and since most no-contract customers pay off the phone right away or so...
