Now there is no reason to do edge. At first it was so we can upgrade to new phone basically whenever, then they changed it to 75% now its 100% ... may as well do the contract 🙄

While I agree with everyone that this move kinds sucks. Many people will still benefit from an Edge agreement. Anyone with a 6GB data plan or higher should still do Edge. 6GB gets you a $25/month discount on your line access which, over the 24 months, comes out to $600. Every smartphone Verizon carries is cheaper when purchased that way as long as they keep the phone for at least 24 months, which you would have to do on a 2yr contract anyway. So yes there is still incentive. 😎

It depends on the phone you get, you'll get a $25 a month discount but if you get lets say an iphone 6 your paying $27.08 a month for those 2 years. Thats $649.92 for the phone.

Yea but if you do a 2 year contract on most phones that are in the $650 or more price the 2 year subsidized price is usually at least $199 plus upgrade fee, on Edge there's no upgrade fee and no upfront cost that's where it really becomes cheaper

I still see a big benefit.

The best benefit is that you get to keep the phone. Why should someone who turns in a scratch and dent get the same value as someone who keeps their phone in mint condition? If you get a higher end phone, it will hold up for quite awhile.

Edge works well for those who get reimbursed from their employers. If I am on a two year contract, my employer still requires me to pay the upgrade fees and unsubsidized hardware cost. On Edge, they pay it all.

You do realize that the next step in Verizon's scheme is to no longer offer two year contracts. Also, once edge is the only option then the "discount" will also disappear. It is just a matter of time.

I dont know where you getting your this from but that is far from the truth phone do not keep their value for long, especially if your trying to do a trade in therough the carrier, ive looked into it just because and can only get $200 for a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus. great job of keeping its value

L2Math, 27.08/mo minus the 25/mo is 2.08/mo which makes 49.92 total over 24 months. Add the 45.50 in tax you pay up front and that is 95.42. That's the total amount you pay for the phone on edge. You pay $254 total for an iPhone 6 on a 2yr contract. So you ultimately save almost $160 buying the phone on edge with the higher discount. 😉
