Good, glad they're shutting down their CDMA network. Get rid of that garbage. GSM is the way to go. At least it's not locked down where you can't use a phone from a different carrier like CDMA.

CDMA was actually the best voice network ever commercially deployed. I will be sad to see it go after Verizon shuts down theirs as well. ☹️

I cannot agree, the sound quality of CDMA is poor, it sounds like the person you are talking to is speaking through a tin can.

And CDMA is also older technology than GSM, GSM was first deployed in 1991, while CDMA was developed during World War II.

Using CDMA in the US pretty much made us a little island with this proprietary technology, while the rest of the world had GSM. Sprint are the a-holes that got CDMA started in the US, followed by Verizon. It's taken 15 years to catch up and be on a worldwide standard. I wouldn't of had such a problem with CDMA if these US carriers would have used RIM cards like they do in Asia where you can change providers by changing RIM cards. US carriers chose to lock down their networks as the most uncompetitive "free market" in the world.

Exactly, locked down, caused problems with intercarrier capatablity which kept prices up. I look at CDMA as the Ebola Virus of mobile technology.

Virgin Mobile operates a CDMA network in Canada. From their online management portal, you can change your ESN / IMEI to ANY CDMA device that supports their network.

It has nothing to do with the technology, it has everything to do with the carrier.

Truth. Carriers lock by choice. On the plus side if someone steals your phone it's less likely they will be able to use it with CDMA.

You are absolutely right.
Its all about the carriers.
If from the get go, CDMA carriers offered C-SIMS, interoperability would have never been an issue.

But the nice thing is that Verizon CDMA/LTE phones are unlocked and you can use them on any carrier except for Sprint.
