Of course. Certain aspects of the Government would grind to a halt without RIM.

Just remember, ladies and gents, all you have to do to get off the hook when breaking the law is to help the Government in the process. As long as you are important enough or even critical, they will help you out.

Anyone care to disprove? 😈

The fact that all the patents will probably be revoked does not convince me that RIM is in the wrong here.

Ah, but it has not been revoked yet, and they have continuously delayed it, even before it hit the news, as I understand.

It seems that the Government is delaying it to help them.

I'm all for RIM, but the government should have a contingency plan if Blackberry service goes down the drain. Yes, it's fast and convenient, but the Blackberry isn't the only device capable of using email.

RIM even said they have a contingency plan. If I were them, I would say, to heck with the trouble, put my backup plan in place and announce to the world that it is up and running, and side step this entire disaster.

I'm willing to bet, even if it wasn't a perfect system, most customers would bear with it.

Even if they do have a plan, it has not been proven that their fix does not infringe on NTP's "patents". I would be preparing for a worst case scenario if I were in the government's shoes.

Very creative. I was alluding to the fact that right now...this very minute...millions of government employees depend on RIM. Let's see a bureaucracy this size come up with an instantaneous alternative. Commence rolling those eyes right back up in your head. Thanks.

And it's the fact that millions depend on RIM that further proves it is crucial to come up with some alternative in the event that RIM loses, no matter the number of users....

Well they have to because a lot of their members and the government are blackberry users and they have to follow and monitor this situation because blackberry devices are very crucial to public safety personnel and other people also especially during the time of problems.

i agree with that, but if someone is infringing on patents then just because the gov uses that persons product doesn't mean they should be the save gimmik

Well they had no right to infringe on any patents and because of that they should pay for it, but to ask for an injunction that will make RIMM lose 75 percent of its business, revenue and customers and could possibly face chapter 11 I think is not a good idea to do, especially since if there is an injunction, NTP wont see a dime.

true.

i think they (ntp) are nolonger in it for money for themselves but to stop RIM from making money. although this is big business it sounds like two friends that cant agree on a way to breakdown the money between eachother because rim wants to under pay them for what they are worth. just like asking someone to do side work on your car that should be worth $50 bucks but you only want to pay in the $30 dollar range. that person will be pissed and do a $30 buck job. so you'll have to get it fixed again.

Yea that is an interesting situation that you have raised. Remember, if RIMM doesn’t make money, NTP wont either.

that is true but RIM being greedy is trying to keep NTP from getting money anyway. 😳

maybe it is NTP being greedy becuase they didnt settle for the $450 that was already potentially agreed too which was later on denied?
