They can "ask" all they want. At that price point an alternative is to go on Ebay or Amazon and purchase an unlocked version instead of locking yourself into a contract with monthly payments meanwhile the Galaxy S7 comes out.

Which would be why you go for the Jump! or Score feature, so you can either do a trade in later, or get a discounted new phone.

Its not so much TMO or any other carrier asking more or less around the amount of money, this is a Samsung thing. These are like iPhone prices, and people bitch about them charging these prices. Seems like price gouging from both of these companies.

On a postive side, I did play with a SGS6 edge and non edge today, it is a nice phone at Best Buy, the version seemed unbranded, and per them a pre production unit. And they didn't have an answer about bloatware both from Samsung and carriers and if it can be removed.
