Wow! This is just going to far. How about NO! Verizon (or anyone else) won't get a dime from me for such a service.

Um...actually you'd be getting the dime from Verizon to watch these ads...after opting in. You should read the article.

This is ridiculous. I cannot get over hating on marketers. Its so fun cause they are the scum of the freaking earth. The detritus of the honest man's working world. I think it is reasonable to assume the following: Phones are about to get entirely not worth the hassle. Like cellphone rates, plans and services are so great as it is that the industry can withstand the repercussions of such a greedy maneuver? Please, take that gamble. A less heated perspective: in the real world the "pay less money for ads" means you pay what you pay now for ads and to have a "premium no ad" plan means you pay extra. Does that sound so ridiculous? Phone companies' and marketers' eyes are simultaneously lighting up like this: $$$ $$$. Call me cynica...

and further... I have a cellphone b/c I have ZERO time for unwelcome and unsolicited communication, i.e. things that waste my time. I am a very private person and can not stand for having that privacy invaded. Even if that intrusion isn't directly aimed at me, if it is anonymous, that is still my space and time being trounced upon. Mark my words, the company that acts the most to thwart , (in a manner that is cost effective to consumers), this sort of exploitation will profit the most from all of this advertising hullabaloo. I can see no way people are going to stand for having advertising, personalized or otherwise, on their personal cellphones.

Call me cynical, but when does the raping end?!

Probably never. I mean, jesus h, you sit down in a toilet in a restaurant and there's an ad billboard on the wall, staring at you. 😳

I'm sure that if marketers could get away with it, they'd put ads on a dying heart patient's EKG readout. They just don' think like you and I (aka human beings).

Hey. I appreciate marketers giving me something to read while on the crapper.

And frankly, it's completely different.

I have nothing better to do when I'm taking a crap, so the ad isn't wasting my time. Seriously, do you really care if you're staring at an ad or a scratched, off-brown enamel coated aluminum door?

However... door-to-door salespeople, telemarketers, everyone involved with television advertising, email spammers... every single one of those people can go rot in hell with their skin being flayed off by acid-covered nanites. Those people are stealing my time and preventing me from doing whatever else I wanted to be doing.

These new video ads on cell phones fit into the second category. F*ck you, Verizon. I hope you go out of business and the sooner the better.

Um...actually no. The idea behind advertising is to get MY dime. I don't know of anyone advertising for the purpose of giving something away and expecting nothing in return.

Verizon and the others will be careful at first so they don't piss anyone off. Once people get "used" to seeing ads on their phone then they'll milk it for all it's worth.

In this case the carriers aren't looking to get your dime, the advertisers are.

The carriers are looking to pocket the advertisers dime.

Per the article, the carriers would lower your rates by some amount less than what they get from the advertisers to post the ads. This is provided you are willing to sign up for the advertising plan.

I still disagree with this strategy since the carriers are looking to raise our tolerance for advertising, ultimately ratcheting the rates back up to the original levels.

Uh...you missed the point. Verizon is cutting you some slack on your monthly bill to persuade you to opt in for these ads. See now? You don't opt in if you don't want. Everybody un...
