Replying to: some movement in the right direction by eric Lin Jan 14, 2006, 1:19 AM
I work for VZW, and I think our account verification policy is rife for abuse. All one needs is the MTN and the last four of the social to call in and make changes to the account. That info plus the billing zip code will get you setup online with detailed calling info. I believe an additional account password should be mandatory, and that if the customer does not know it when they call in, or logon, their account should be locked down until they can go into a store, or authorized agent and verify their identity. They'd still be able to make calls, they just wouldn't be able to make changes or get info.
I also think a massive sting should be setup by each carrier to fully determine how this info is getting into the hands of these companies. Any employee caught assisting them (knowingly or not) should be thrown out on their ass and sued (if their assistance was voluntary).
I get a strong sense that this issue is very important to Verizon Wireless, but I don't feel we're doing all we can.
