VCAST Music Disables MP3 Playback
I swear we've been over this...
Consider it confirmed.
But it really ain't so bad, I quote my previous post below (Note point 2 & 3) but let me also summarize as applicable to this story:
Windows Media Player 10 will automatically convert any audio file it reads (including MP3) to .wma when to try to sync to the phone. If you use a mac (as I do) then search versiontracker.com for one of the many sound coverters available (such as Music Man or the aptly named SoundConverter) and you can also convert MP3s to wma and transfer them to the phone.
Also, let me point out to everyone complaining that the only legal MP3s you ...

The major reason im holding off for the new software is well.. EV-DO has yet to even launch in my area. (Nashville).
They have it in Memphis to the west and Knoxville to the east, but not the biggest city in Tennessee.. go figure! 🙂

Yep, but WMA is a lossy format. Meanin' that when WM10 auto-converts your mp3s to WMA, you will lose some audio quality.
4. Using Media Player 10 will auto convert MP3s to WMA when you try to sync. YOU ARE NOT LIMITED TO MUSIC FROM VCAST.
See above.
5. No, you cannot use songs purchased from iTunes. That, however, is as much Apple's limitation as it is VZW. (I am an avid user of both, and have no issue with this.)
That's actually a huge problem for me, as I have a LOT of music downloaded from iTunes. I...

If you do, I'm listening... 😎
PS... People are unhappy about the service hasn't even LANUCHED yet. How do you know? 😕

Can you play your iTunes elsewhere besides the ipod? Or you know better music-on-demand service?

My computer.
My friends computer.
My car (burned CD).
My friend's car (burned CD).
My boombox (as above).
My friend's boomboxes. (see above)

Uhh.. are you readin' the same forum I am?
And the things people are complaining over are things that won't be changing with the launch... such as the disabling of mp3 functionality on phones that previously had it, the auto-conversion of mp3 to WMA (which sacrifices audio quality), the pricing, etc.

what kind of phone do you have? The quality on my 8100 isn't good enough to tell the difference between a wma and mp3...

Thats not really a blanket statement you can make... different users have different levels of hearing ability.
There are audiophiles, who hear EVERY little thing, and then there are guys who can't tell a major diff between a flea-market rack system an' a $10,000 of state-of-the-art piece o' goodness.
My friends computer. - when you purchase a song, you can download it again to a different computer using your login.
My car (burned CD). - Of course you can burn the music you purchase from Vz.
My friend's car (burned CD). - (as above)
My boombox (as above). - (as above)
My friend's boomboxes. (see above) - (as above)
About Audio quality, it's the WMA is better, if the size of the song is the same.
And last - the pricing, so far it's the best. It's the same as iTunes when done on the computer, cheaper then Sprint when done over the phone...
Shock, with all due respect 😎 , you point is?

We've had this "problem" before.
Nobody is gonna twist your arm making you download or use Verizon MOD. And I can tell you, that if you a heavy ipod user, you wouldn't need any kind of cellphone MP3 player. 😎
Worst case scenario, you can always use the scotch. 🤣

Well, even before the Verizon Music service there was no MP3 players in the cellphones with ability to play itunes besides the Rokr witch stunk badly.
Yeah, but there are a bunch of iTunes phones comin' soon.
C'mon KV, you know that. Even the RAZR is getting iTunes soon.
