1. You are not required to use an SD card. The phones will accept .wma files on internal memory after the update.
2. The 8100, 950 and a new Audiovox (UT Starcom, whatever...) will be available at launch. YES, THE 9800 WILL BE AVAILABLE, BUT NOT TILL LATER. Those are it for now.
3. You can still use a card reader to put unlicensed .wma files on a card, just not DRM protected files. This means any OS can use it. (There are plenty of apps available to convert MP3 to WMA on any OS as well)
4. Using Media Player 10 will auto convert MP3s to WMA when you try to sync. YOU ARE NOT LIMITED TO MUSIC FROM VCAST.

Nope. The WMA files won't play on the ipod, the AAC files won't play on the vcast phone... at least not legally. There are (easy) ways to do both though, but the moment you break the copyright protection (including file conversion) you would be in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
I am not necessarily taking a stance on the legality, just providing all information.
I will point out that there is nothing illegal about converting music you own/rip off a CD into either format, or both... despite how the RIAA might feel about it.

I agree..I won't be using any music source sponsored by a wireless carrier. If you must have music on your phone..own a phone with an SD card reader (I have 512mb trans flash), then download to pc from any number of sites for .99 or cheaper, transfer to card and then to phone. Over the air downloads are too expensive and if it's going to internal memory, most phones don't have much. Next, they need streaming music.
