snowboarder is probably right. manufacturers and carriers like memory cards because they can sell phones with the potential to have lots of memory without the cost of that memory. many users will never fill up their phone's memory, let alone a memory card. but cards give power users the opportunity to upgrade their phone's memory without the initial manufacturing cost.

i do see the potential for these hard drives in media-rich phones, be they smartphones or not. imagine an N92 with tivo functionality built in. or a music phone that rivals an ipod or even a camera with a decent video recorder. rich has pointed out that the 6282 records 640 x 480 20 fps video. that makes for some large files.
