Will these mark the end of days for the transflash memory cards in phones? The only setback would be if it takes alot of time to upload files from the phone to your PC.

i dont think that it is going to eliminate transflash cards totally. As the article states cornice already manufactures a 3GB hard drive for the samsung i300. Sounds like these new hard drives are going to be manufactured for smart phones. I believe that the standard phones will still use transflash cards because it allowes for more accessory sales and more choices for the customer..

snowboarder is probably right. manufacturers and carriers like memory cards because they can sell phones with the potential to have lots of memory without the cost of that memory. many users will never fill up their phone's memory, let alone a memory card. but cards give power users the opportunity to upgrade their phone's memory without the initial manufacturing cost.

i do see the potential for these hard drives in media-rich phones, be they smartphones or not. imagine an N92 with tivo functionality built in. or a music phone that rivals an ipod or even a camera with a decent video recorder. rich has pointed out that the 6282 records 640 x 480 20 fps video. that makes for some large files.

i dont know wether or not that will happen because it will get rid of the flash cards. Unless the lower end phones start using flash cards and the higher end ones switch to these larger hard drives. I dont see this happening but it is a possibility...

Most PC's with 120 GB Hard Drives still have CD-RW drives and some still have 3.5 Drives. So why would they leave removable media on these machines but take it off of cell phones which are just basically smaller computers.
