As long as:
”¡ the law is clear that showing the digital license does not imply consent to a search of the device or vehicle,

”¡no information other than what would be gleaned from a physical license is admissible in court,

”¡a statutory requirement to immediately return the device to the driver after looking at the license

this might work.

I'd be for a program that sends the digital license to the officer's device via Bluetooth or whatever supersedes Bluetooth eliminating the physical transfer of the device. The officer's device could then verify the license with the state database. The officer can look at the driver, look at the picture just as they do now to authenticate the identity.
