I wouldn't say they are blind morons, more like they believe perception to be reality. The perception is they are the largest wireless carrier and nobody is even close to what they offer. Whereas in reality, you can do what I did and switch to at&t and get just as good if not better in a lot of places (Alta, Utah, Snowshoe WV for my fellow skiers) but have much better customer service and believe that when you signed up you weren't just a $. IMO

A lot of this depends on where you live. If you live in metro areas, you have more options.
If you live in rural America, it's a different ball game. Where I am, VZW is king, ATT has SOME coverage here, but VZW is what works everywhere. Some people simply don;t have other options as Sprint and T-MO have zero rural coverage here.
Playing devil's advocate now....I can understand VZW in a way. They're not catering to the lowest common denominator. And in many ways, this makes sense. Macy's isn't trying to win Walmart people. BMW isn't try to convert Kia buyers. Why would VZW want to cater to customers who are on Virgin Mobile budget?

I wouldn't compare AT&T to Walmart or KIA LOL. T-Mobile & Sprint yes but not Big Blue. They are more like Nordstrom & Audi with whom Macy's & BMW DO compete. I find in Montana & Idaho & most of the Pacific Northwest AT&T smokes Verizon.

GSM carriers smoke no CDMA carriers anywhere, except maybe metro areas. CDMA covers more than 99% of the country.

If a person never travels to rural areas, AT&T might have an edge where someone works, lives, and uses his phone the most. However, if you live in the boonies, Verizon is probably the only carrier available.
My wife and I traveled to Bear Paw, North Carolina for a weekend getaway. Our Sprint phones worked the entire trip, but we roamed on Verizon. The people who rented the cabin to us warned, "We hope you have Verizon, because AT&T loses coverage once you pass Ducktown."
I live near Chattanooga, but sometimes travel to rural areas. I've never seen a case around here where AT&T provided comparable coverage to even the worst CDMA provider. Basic access still matters in the cell phone world. After all, isn't that the main reason most of u...

It is not that difficult to find examples of areas where at&t has coverage and Verizon does not....it just depends on where you look.

If you want an example of poor network on Verizon go to Alta, Utah where AT&T works great and Verizon, not so much. Or go to Snowshoe WV's website and go under FAQ. They specifically call out AT&T as the best option there for service and say the other carriers are welcome to fix their networks but as of now they haven't.

In my time as an at&t customer, I have never been in a place where I could go not at least get roaming coverage. If there is an area where only Verizon has native coverage, then the Verizon tower probably has an at&t (or some other local GSM carrier) antenna on it, and I will be able to get roaming coverage. If you can't get even roaming coverage on at&t in an area, it is probably an area where no one offers coverage.

Verizons mentality is comparable to General Motors in the 60s 70s era. They think Cadillac, luxurious and quality. While they may be ahead of the times, they are going to start feeling the punch very soon. Att is attempting to show its customers that it can somewhat adapt with the market. If it weren't for att Verizon rates would still be more expensive as it doesn't see Sprint or T mobile as threats. Att and T mobile are showing the consumer more activity than Verizon. Hopefully T mobile is able to get the 700 mhz and uncarrier a few more times to put pressure on att. Then we will see what Verizon can do when it's too late.

I see why you would say all that but I think it is something else. Their "mentality" seems to me to be "let's make ourselves the best, sell ourselves as the best, and deliver the promise and charge a fair cost for it."
I remember several years ago, Verizon blew the minds of the industry for RAISING costs for plans. They lost no customers.
I don't really see what all the carrier hate is all about. Obviously, everyone should go with what they like and what works for them. My rate is cheap and I get reliable service. I don't see them unwilling to compete either. They offer a comparable plan to the rest of the industry.

If the last 10-15 years is any indication, Verizon will do just what they said: lead not follow. Anyone who has been a wireless customer for that length of time can certainly tell you how big of a joke "Rollover" was.
It is literally a gimmick to get you to buy more than you need in order to raise that bottom line. It was good only in a pinch and only if you happened to hurdle over your limit on that blue moon occasion.
By the time I left ATT, I had accrued over 8000 rollover minutes. As other users have ...
