in this economy anyone can have "bad credit" don't rush to judgment. Hell not having bills is considered bad credit. a good credit score don't mean crap if you have any debt at all like a mortgage or car payment.

It's not hard to have credit. And yes bad credit is based on the bills you do not pay . There are credit cards specifically to build your credit. its not that hard to get on a phone company.

How do you figure ATT and Verizon have been doing this for years? ATT and Verizon have always been the hardest to get, with the most stringent credit requirements and highest deposits for poor credit customers.
Whereas T-Mobile had credit class T for years, where people who were flat denied for ATT/VZW could pay a $100 activation fee and still get a phone. Now they are just extending their ease of access to smartphones, and Im betting they will get a bunch of people to jump.
Now whether that will end up being a net positive remains to be seen, but you better believe they figured in default rates, and might have even insured against it. Defaults have always ended up being a small net positive for the carrier by the time the whole dea...

When your first setting up service thats correct the part thats being refferenced to is about the options to get the a new phone sometime down the road when youve had the service for a little bit of time. I know this personally due to working for AT&T once youve had service for some amount of time you are able to geton the next plan with no problem but when your first signing up theres a credit requirement
same with Verizon have their service in a family members name where their credit wasnt too good a the time we got it had to get the 2 yr commitment but now able to get on the edge plan due to the amount of time weve had the service
