This Could Get Interesting

Knowing that T-Mobile has been looking forward to this for a long time, what are the chances of the major carriers (Cingular, Verizon, and Sprint) buying up this spectrum simply to keep companies like T-Mo, Alltel, and USCC from gaining any spectrum?

Just a thought as it would help bring more business to the big 3 because the rest would be unable to roll out much of a 3G network.

It would be an evil thing to do, but potentially a smart business decision.

Well, I think it would be the larger carriers' best interest to let companies such as Alltel and USCC to have spectrum like that, because then you could have roaming partners in rural areas instead of buying spectrum and keeping it unused. It's the larger markets that will have the battle.

I don't think carriers will battle over North Dakota and West Virginia much. I could be wrong, but I just think that way.

...and more than enough spectrum to support those plans.

If T-Mobile wins this auction, does that mean that they will be able to put service in The Carolinas, as native coverage? Is this auction for PCS bands, or just 3G networks?

Someone like Cingular could buy 1700 MHz range just to trade for others who already have the 1900 MHz and maybe aren't using it.
