The Government does not control this information.

Your cell phone carrier does.

The govt. can not track your exact location through your phone.

Verizon, Cingular, Sprint, Etc. Etc. Etc. can.

i.e. The govt. can NOT find out where you were without the Cell phone companies releasing the information to them.

So unless a Bush is in control of your cell phone companies security you are fine. The govt. does not control everything. If you are afraid of the Govt. repressing all your freedoms because of this stupid little deal then you shhould go live in Cuba for a few months and see how much you complain after you return.

As new technology comes out they have to adapt laws to fit the technology without invading on your rights.

Obviously you all have many more reasons ot fear the government than I. Heave forebid somebody might be able to find out where a call was placed from, cause ohh God then they might come kill us all. You all have fun looking over your shoulder and calling on your trac phones cause your afraid big brother will find you, I will be enjoying my free minutes and ability to call from almost anywhere I want, while you all are standing on one foot trying to get a bar on your trac phones. 😛

Hmm, guess we must have paid better attention in history class.

I just wonder - if and when (hopefully never) - this comes around and bites the country in the ass, if people who agree and think like you will have the integrity to admit the mistake made or deny it.

It doesn't affect me, I am a law abiding citizen other than the occasional traffic violations, which if they really have nothing better to do with their time than track down a guy driving 10 miles an hour over the limit - then bring it on coppers.

This has nothing to do with history class, and won't affect the majority of people. You have to be a suspect, it says that in the article, so unless you are a suspect for a crime, this has no affect on you. If you didn't notice that part of the article then maybe you should have paid more attention in English class, particularly when they taught you how to read.

If tomorrow they pass a law saying no downloading asian teen porn at work you would then be a criminal, and then they could track you. This is just riddicule but the point is that what is illegal is arbitrary, they can change the law accordingly, and our laws are so vague they could apply to anyone, a man in tennessee was sentenced to life in prison 3 years ago for spitting on a cop, he was a dirty wifebeater, but in court they argued that if the man had aids, which he did not, then it would be attempted homicide on a police officer.

well he was a criminal anyway, and I do not spit on cops. Do you?
and I do not download asian porn - at home or at work. So let them pass a law against that for all I care.

More laws are not the answer to anything. Beating your wife is horrible but it should not be equated with murdering and raping children, which also gets life in prison. I would spit on a cop who spit on me, you are missing the point entirely on purpose and defending un-defendable positions for the sake of not giving up an argument.... and for reasons i cannot understand.

No, but you are defending life in prison for spitting on another human being. In our justice system. That is what I cannot get past.

No I'm not, I never said he deserved it, He does for beating his wife is what I meant about him being a criminal, I am wondering if there is information you mgiht not be aware of in this story though. His wife probably refused to testify against him, so the cop was getting him for all that he could, I don't blame the cop for doing that, lots of wives are afraid to testify against their abusive husbands, and I have no pity in my heart for a man who beats a woman or child.

I was defending myself in that I would not spit on a cop though.

I blame cops who abuse the system to get what they want, especially if it is life in prison.

I still think there is more to the story than you know probably, the cops may have stretched the laws slightly to punish this guy, but he probably had it coming in one form or another. Karma is a bitch.

assaulting a police officer and "altering food"

for spitting in a cops burger.

A court is not going ot find an individual guilty of attempted muder because he COULD have had aids and COULD have spread it to a cop by spitting on him, because YOU CAN'T SPREAD AIDS THROUGH SALIVA - that is a fact, the court is not going to find someone guilty of somethign that is not scientifically possible.

and Spitting in food is a health board violation - whether its a cops burger or not - you better believe if I find someone spitting in my burger I am going to sue the pants off of them and the company they work for.

You are not doing yourself much good telling me what would and would not happen without even looking at the story. Again, you are missing the point entirely, you can and will be charged anything no matter what the situation and it will stick.

Your unconsciencable defense of heinous acts perpetrated by our justice system is really something I cannot understand.

But i will leave it be because it is kwanzaa and i have to celebrate martin luther king dying for your sins. and like i said before, this ruling is bad, but not "patriot act bad" or "japanese internment bad", but it is a shame that the only thing that would make you change your mind would be for you to get charged with attempted murder of a police officer when you try to run fo...

I can't look at the story here because for one I am behind a firewall ☚ī¸ - so feel free to post it in here and I will read it over, not to mention you did not post a link to the story. Or give the names of anyone involved or the city it happened in so I can research it myself.

Regardless though, unless the guy was a complete moron with a bigger moron for a lawyer and an even bigger moron as a judge that charge would no stick at least in regards to how you are describing the story. Now if you are leaving out details (possibly on accident I am not pointing fingers) then maybe they got him on a similar charge. No lawyer is going to lose a case on that charge unless they want to lose, and even then a judge is not going to find someone guilt...

no, you really need to look at the story yourself, you are the one who is defending law enforcement to un-defendable ends so you need to read it because if i post every detail of the story because you do not want to believe something i will get absolutely nothing out of you, not an apology, not an "i was wrong" so there is no benefit to me. but anyone who has a home computer can look it up if they do not believe me, there are hundreds of different stories from different news agencies, and that is how i found that spit in the burger story.

I'm not arguing any other story, I am talkign about this specific one you keep mentioning but will nto give me any information to even look it up myself at home. Find the story and copy and paste it into here, or copy and paste the link to it and I will read it when I get home. I DO want to read it, but if you do not give me any more information than a guy spit on a cop I am not going to bother searchign google for that because it will bring up more results than I care to browse through. For all I know right now you are making this story up, and until you post a link or tell me exactly where I can find this article you are mentioning I am going to consider your comments ignorant and idiotic regarding this instance because it simply makes no ...

There was also a jury involved though, which is the most troubling part of the story, apparently a jury full of people who don't mind convicting and sentencing people who disobey authority. The defendant was scum yes, but people who defend rulings and laws like that are really the worst problem, for reasons, that are, debatable.

You guys are absolute morons. Spitting on a cop has nothing to do with this topic.

Worring about weather or not "big brother" George is tracking your phone or not is just as dumb as arguing about the topic you're arguing about.

George Bush is the President of the United Sates of America, end of story. He IS NOT Congress. Comgress makes the laws, not the President. You want to bitch and moan about a law, whine to your Congressmen or Senators, those are the guys in the Federal govt that affect you directly. If you want to worry about some asshat that spit on a cop, go get a law degree and defend the guy in an appeals court. Other than that, get back on topic, please.

That was used to point out the fact that what is the law is designated by those who make and enforce the law and that our laws are so vague anything can become a crime bearing the maximum sentence.

And you cannot be independent because that would require no hyphenation or addition to your affiliation. You are a left leaning republican, that is all. In our two party system you are either one or the other, independents vote for a party too they just think they look cooler. I do not belong to any party but i am left of left but like nazis who vote republican, i usually find myself voting for democrats who i still virulently hate.

ah, the the definition you gave was more off base than i thought, but for me to give you a retort on your affiliation i would be getting off topic even more than i am now, the previous point still stands, the government can charge whoever they want with whatever they want and this ruling is not as bad as all the other things they get through the system every day, its just another step.

well, i think you're half right.

All a gov't agent would have to do would to contact Sally Whoever from Verizon and tell her we need this this this this and this number tracked. Sally's response = "sure!"

but REGARDLESS, even if it wasnt that easy, though i really think it is, the gov't has control to all the E911 and GPS locationing. so this has no real effect in regards to gov't access.
