Cingular Launches Push to Talk

Did anyone notice???

That the Cingular PTT map shows a ton more coverage than the regular calling map on the cingular site when picking a plan???? How is it that there would be PTT coverage above and beyond normal coverage???

usually, it would be the other way around, becuase without the voice channel you dont have the push to talk.

That was my point, genius. Thanks for your wonderful answer to my question. 🙄

What it looks like is the PTT map is the new voice map and they did not update the regular coverage map on their website. And, if that is the case, the expansion in coverage from the old map to the new one is nothing short of impressive.

I think you are correct in that they just haven't updated their voice coverage map. If you look at the PTT coverage map it says that an updated version is expected in June 2006. The voice map is expected in end of 2005. They haven't updated the current voice map since August, and in that time they have spent billions in expansion.

I hope that assumption is correct. I will say this....if it is, the expansion is nothing short of impressive. The amount of coverage they have added since August is simply stunning.

Not only that, but other companies have been adding coverage as well. Cingular is basically using its buying power to get a better deal on equipment for smaller companiess in exchange for roaming agreements (which mean more revenue for the smaller companies).

When they were talking about PTT the cingular rep claimed you need at least 1 bar to connect a PTT call but then if u lose that bar and travel further out of the service area your PTT will continue to work. I have no idea how that is but thats probaly why the map is larger
...
