it is way better than nextel. I work for cingular and have had a PTT phone for over a month. The connection time is a little longer, about 5-8 seconds, but once the conversation gets going, it is about a 0.2 second delay.

lol its way better then nextel?

lol 5-8 seconds on the set up call is better then sub-second? hmm if it is lets do business. lol.

the intra calling will be the same thing once its connected.. the most important metric is the setupcall and that set up call duration is horrible.

cheaper doesnt mean better. remember you pay for what you get..

i also dont like the fact that only 1 phone is out now and another 1 later on.. i think that might pose some problems..

we shall hope so, or else there will be the same problem sprint and verizon faced when they launched and then re-launched push to talk.. you need a variety of products to entice people, especially when many people already bought phones.. now you have to buy new ones? not sure many people would do that..

They are practically handing the phones out. If you call customer service and tell them you wish to add the PTT feature to your plan, they will give you a discounted phone. But wait for the D357 to come out, I have it and the phone is amazing. If the V3x ever comes out for us, and has PTT, it will be hands down the greatest phone ever made.

It is cheaper and better. I have been using Cingular's PTT for about two weeks now. I live in Maine and a soft launch happened last Friday. I work for a dealer and as soon as we got inventory I called and added the feature to my account. As far as the phones go I am now using the LG7200. I hate it! It is the same phone as the 1300 but with PTT. The first week I had the service my co-worker and I were using the Samsung D357. The phone worked great! My company had to return all stock back to Cingular because of "power cycle" problem when using PTT with the clam closed and while roaming. Whatever! Coming from the P207 I thought the phone really worked well. The service really does work very well. To connect to someone takes about 1...

thanks for that experience you have been having..

the problems (my view)

1. 5-8+ seconds on the set up.
2. cingular's prepaid and post paid are struggling.
3. data is struggling.
4. 1-2 phones.

thanks anyway rootherb 🙂

Nextel18 is right, cingy has a LONG way to go before they can compete with nextel. Try getting nextel subscribers to switch over... If it were compatable with nextel it would be a different story. But when you have workers connected to foreman, connected to suppliers, connected to manufacturers... Its very hard to break a link in the chain. You have to take the whole chain. And when you talk about 100+ people, its hard to tell all of them to buy new phones.

nextel18 is just scared his little company is about to get runned over again.

lets see, all 50million+ customers on cingular can walkie talkie each other compared to 17million with nextel. And one of the worst thing about nextel is their coverage, and cingulars walkie talkie feature is waaaaay bigger. check out the map its on all of cingulars towers, which is also bigger than verizon.

nextels walkie talkie is outdated compared to the Kodiaks RTX system cingular is using. some features... real-time availability information (presence), call waiting, and the ability to convert a PTT call to a normal voice call at any time, quick grouping, voicemail, (this is all on walkietalkie feature) and much more, very similar to instant messaging...

"nextel18 is just scared his little company is about to get runned over again"

lol pathetic statement.. again? how come one has to be so bias with only giving one argument and not hearing the other side? lol.

"ets see, all 50million+ customers on cingular can walkie talkie each other compared to 17million with nextel."

all 50 million customers will not get push to talk lol.. sprint and verizon have more customers and not even 1 percent got push to talk service after it was released a year later. lol.

🤣 What a joke, Lucid you big Dummy. CIngular is not about to run anything over but their own feet. 50 million plus customer are not going to want PTT, 48,856,125 million of those people think that PTT is redundant, and stupid. Then the first PTT phone is an LG? You're joking right. Lacking Greatness, has perhaps the worst cell phones in the industry.
They are the equivalant to cow sh#$. Second, this was supposed to be released about a month ago but there were too many system problems. When they did a soft release, they had people calling in complaining. Expect this to be a constant item when dealing with CIngular.

Nextel didn't start business one day and have 17 million customers the next day. We'll have to wait and see. Maybe the IM type of thing may be more appealing to the younger generation.

New phones get added all the time. Why would that be a problem?

my point was.. if someone has to get a whole new phone again just to have push to talk and the number of push to talk selections are bad then there is no point of getting that push to talk phone. what if the phone isnt as good as their phone? such as the looks, features and other things? no point of spending additional funds..

i can understand if people were to buy phones that include the top features out there AND push to talk, but they dont and probably ever wont and that is why i think push to talk from the other companies have been a failure.

What about voice quality? I wouldn't consider Nextel's voice quality on PTT good, even though it was (is?) the best. It was okay, but I found that without really strong signal many things had to be repeated.

You can be the best at something but still be horrible. On a scale of 1-1000, 1 being the worst and 1000 being the best, if everyone else is at 52 and you're at 53, you're still the best, even though you are still terrible.
