Cingular changin' its name to AT&T? Sounds like a good idea..

Its a good move on their part. A lotta Cingular's problem is their bad reputation (even Cingular's CEO admits their reputation ain't good), an' changin' their name to AT&T would be like a fresh start.

Also might make some of their former AT&T wireless customers a little happier, which is good since they is jumpin' ship on Cingular left an' right.

SBC as a whole changin' their name to AT&T is also good, since it ain't a household name. AT&T is.

I agree with another thread in that i think they should just come up with a new name altogether. AT&T doesn't ring as good as Cingular (name wise) in my head.

yeah.... Cingular sounds way less trashy than AT&T Cingular just sounds nice... maybe a new name would be ok,,, but it really dose seem like step backwords or a cop out, fix the problems dont change them name.

They are fixing the problems. My last couple of phone calls to customer service have been very pleasurable. They are definately heading in the right direction.

Hitler is also a household name.

Maybe Germany should go back and restore Nazi icons and historical references to their culture.

Afterall, the swastika does have worldwide recognition.

Ahahahahahaha! 🤣 😳 🤣 Nice one, MD. Blew that Nazi whackness right outta the water.

Where did THAT come from, anyway? Did I miss AT&T attacking Western Europe an' sendin' millions to the gas chambers or somethin'? WOW, their PR department must be GREAT!

How is it apples and oranges. AT&T has bad brand image just like Hitler. Everyone I know hates AT&T. Sure everyone knows the name AT&T, but it is still bad.

Are you serious? AT&T pissed off millions of customers. Hitler killed millions of innocents. APPLES AND ORANGES. Geeze.

You are off the meds, aintcha? 😳

Hey, I think I can equate Dr. Seuss wit' Hitler. The point isn't that Dr. Seuss is a children's storybook writer an' Hitler murdered millions, the point is both are known to have liked children. 🙄

You call murdering millions of innocent people "bad"? Bad is not holding the door open for your mother. Get a grip...and get on topic. Yeesh.

Most of the people I know talk about AT&T as the telephone system that worked. After the breakup, billing was no longer standardized, long distance became a nightmare, and the telecom industry in general started whirling counter clockwise down the drain.

At least, that's how people describe it to me. People seem to forget AT&T's bait and switch long distance. But people seem to remember Verizon's slamming, as well as Bell Atlantic. In fact, most people think that Bell Atlantic changed its name to Verizon simply because the name Bell Atlantic was so bad.

You are crazy. AT&T would only have a "bad brand image just like Hitler" if

1) Hitler WAS A BRAND. He wasn't. He was an evil dictator.
2) If AT&T KILLED MILLIONS IN GAS CHAMBERS. They didn't.

What part of "that is crazy thinking" do you not yet get? Do you think if you repeat somethin' crazy 1000 times, it magically becomes uncrazy? 😳

Neither name will ever win, as an employee who has worked on both sides, blue and orange, I have never seen so much favoritism for ATTWS until after it was bought by Cingular. Where before, ATTWS was a name that was trashed by everyone practically, now the name Cingular seems to carry that mantle and everyone is crying to bring back ATT. So you are definitely damned if you do, damned if you don't. Will be interesting to definitely see how this plays out.

What I find odd is that old AT&T was going to relaunch next year as a prepaid MVNO utilizing Sprint's network. A preemptive strike by Cingular to keep them from doing so????

Actually, I think it was PR. AT&T knew it would merge with a Baby Bell. Sprint was not a Baby Bell, and would make an MVNO agreement with AT&T. AT&T's strategy was toward business in the end. Now, I can just imagine them telling business,

"You can't roam of the Sprint PCS network without incurring roaming charges of 99 cents per minute. You will not be able to take your phone overseas to roam anymore, we will issue you a SIM and you will be able to rent a phone..."

Yeah, Sprint PCS made a whole lot of sense technology-wise....but it did relationship wise.

Everyone already associates Cingular and AT&T Wireless as the same company. I do not see how this will necessarily help them. Change is good, but sometimes it is not necessary. It cost Cingular a lot of money to change the AT&T stores over to Cingular. Now, they are going to change 100% of the stores in the Cingular Relm to the "New" AT&T. They could be using that money to fix some of their problems that they have currently, like hire customer care reps from the United States. We will see I guess. There has to be some reason that the Cingular "BIG WIGS" want to spend that kind of money to change the name. 😕
