Why not just get a new name all together!

Think Verizon

It's already confusing customers that say they're Cingular when they're still on AT&T and now Cingular customers will think they're AT&T and the AT&T customer will be completely confused just make a new name AT&T has a bad rep around here and Cingular isn't that much better. New all together company, new name!

Hear, hear! I totally agree with you on this one. AT&T has a bad rep here. Cingular has a decent one and i prefer that name but if they're gonna drop it, they a new name altogether is a better choice.

I agree I expected a complete rebrand when the merger happened dropping the AT&T name altogether then and now doing the same to cingular is just going to confuse and frustrate their customers... the only possible good I can imagine from this is if it's accompanied by some new line of plans or promotions but I doubt that's what they're doing.

I disagree. I can't even count how many people in my market have said that they liked their service much better when it was AT&T (not that it has changed much since the merger) and that they are considering leaving Cingular to go to Verizon. The AT&T name carried a ton of weight in my market and I feel that the change will help retain customers, as well as add new ones.

My guess is that Cingular/AT&T will launch a HUGE marketing campaign once they complete the name change. And the customer service is getting much better. My last couple calls have been almost Verizon-esqe. Very impressive.

I agree AT&T did have a better reputation and this CAN be a good thing for the company if it's very well orchestrated, though I doubt it will be. At this point it's far too late to completely rebrand with a new name I just feel they missed an opportunity to do so at the time of the merger.

SBC/BLS didn't own the AT&T name at the time of the merger so this is actually their first opportunity.

Obviously they know something you don't unless you have a multibillion dollar bank account...

The AT&T wireless name was owned by AT&T Corp as a part of the terms of the merger. SBC did not own the name until they bought out AT&T Corp.

And I honestly feel that it will be orchestrated correctly. Their customer service has made great strides in the past month and I honestly feel that they are on the right track.

Suppose I've got to take your word on it, I was involved with both parties via indirect at the time of the merger and for about six months after but have had no dealings with the company in sometime. I'm sure considering how bad it was you understand the lingering doubts I have. heh I still think they should run their ideas by me before putting any into action.

I agree. For customers, there is no difference between AT&T and Cingular. I work in wireless, and whenever a "former AT&T" customer walks in to my store I ask which carrier they are with. 95% of them still claim that AT&T Wireless is their provider. If you look at the drawing board now, Cingular is on top. Why do they want to change their name? Why not take that money and be more constructive. Like improve customer care. Maybe build out more towers so they do not have to rely on roaming partners to provide their network? I donโ€™t know, maybe I am way off. ๐Ÿ˜•

Like i was telling some one earlier: Cingular is just like a NFL team saying its the best because it has more players than any other team but still is losing everygame you play.

I agree. I think Cingular will have a great advantage coming up. It'll have a large network, upgrading to HSDPA, possibly with a faster case than Verizon and Sprint are upgrading to EV-DO.

To be honest, I don't care what 250 million other people think of a service. I only care what I think of it. If it works for me, it's good. If it doesn't work for me, it's terrible. I don't care how many other subscribers they have.

Like the automotive industry. GM is the world's largest auto maker. Does that also mean that GM creates the best and the most luxurious cars? Toyota is quickly overcoming that and moving up, being proven my consumer satisfaction. GM can possibly stay on top, but things must change. If Toyota overcomes GM, that ...

That last sentence wuz kinda garbled, but if youre sayin' that Cingular will get HSPDA out nationwide faster than Verizon will get EVDO out nationwide, I don' think so. Cingular's CEO admitted that theyre 'bout 12 to 18 months behind Verizon in rollin' out their high-speed network.
