I have to admit I thought RIM would come up with something when 10's of millions of dollars are at stake. I just heard a huge collective sigh of relief.

I still think it's vaporware till I see it.. RIM has been talking about having this workaround for months now, and it's supposedly just as good as their current software, and doesn't violate any of NTP's patents. If they do have something they should go ahead and push it to everyone, and end this whole infringing patent BS, or at the very very least give their users the option to go ahead and start trying it out. My guess is, if they do indeed having "something" it's no where near as good, and that is why they have not moved on it prior to now.

I'd guess that 1) The work around is NOT as good as their current model. 2) Even if it is similarly as effective, they don't want to incurr the cost/effort to initiate the change, if they can avoid it (by making the NTP issue go away).

I think it boils down to this: They want to see where the legal action is going.
