This Happens More Often Than You Think

There is no win to this ... For employees to do their jobs they need access to your PII (Personal Identifyable Information) and your CPNI (Consumer Proprietary Network Information)

Employees are trained, warned and threatened but if someone is going to breach your privacy and break laws there is little you can do about it.

A general customer care rep (providing they actually STAYED awake in train in training) and keep in mind ATT outsources their customer care to non ATT owned companies and non ATT employees have access to your information. To companies such as ACCENT Marketing, Teleperformance, Convergys, and many others.

These employees have access to your
-Social Security Number
-Mothers Maiden Name
-Billing information & add...

I agree....it is a bit like employee theft in general. They need access to customer data, preventing every single employee from abusing that access is next to impossible.


As an employee at a retailer, you have access to merchandise, a certain percentage of employees are going to take advantage of this to steal the merchandise. You can't really prevent them from having access to the merchandise or else they can't do their jobs. All you can do is monitor them closely and try to catch them when they steal. But if the employee is clever, and many of them are, then they will be able to steal for months or years without getting caught.
