Always trying to screw the customer? The article states they dropped the idea of throttling heavy data users who still have the unlimited data. Last time I checked that's a win for customers who still have this plan. 🙂

Very few still have this perk. Even so, Verizon plans are extremely overpriced compared to Sprint and T-Mobile. I wish people who don't need the rural coverage would wake up and drop the big 2.

Is Verizon overpriced? Or maybe it's just that you get what you pay for....people who want a truly national network only have the option of Verizon or at&t, Sprint and T-Mobile are just not in the fight unfortunately, and for people who need a truly national network, paying an extra $10-$15 a month is worth it to have the coverage.

Truly national or native coverage? Sprint has every part of the US covered through roaming agreements. This, in essence, makes it truly national. Never once have I been without Sprint service in this respect and I'm saving more than $60 a month. Much more than $15.

Even then, what harm does it do to roam on occasion? Why do people have this fear of roaming? Is it pride? I roam maybe 15% of the time in my travels and never have a problem. Data works on roaming. I may have a decrease in speed but I always get my emails and important documents.

I am currently working at the Walmart wireless center, so I am responsible for selling at&t, Verizon and Sprint pre-paid service, and so I know that the difference in price between the lowest priced Sprint plan and the lowest priced Verizon plan is only $5 a month. Rate plans these days are very competitive, you aren't going to save huge sums of money by changing carriers.

And I try to be unbiased, I never tell anybody not to sign up with this carrier, or not to buy that phone, I try to let people make their own choices, but unfortunately at least once or twice a week I have people come in asking about Sprint, I always have to look up in the coverage map whether they will have coverage, and all too often we see no coverage, or only 2...

Well he was kinda right. The article mentions that VZ won't throttle data on those using the grandfathered unlimited data plans. The only problem with this is that VZ doesn't allow you to upgrade at promotional price or go on their Edge plan if you are on the unlimited plan. This has made many of their customers mad especially when AT&T is allowing their customers to keep their unlimited plans and get promotional price!
Like I said, he was kinda right. Ha

The plan was likely dropped because it is hard to argue that they have a shortage of bandwidth when they are offering a double data promotion.

It is a win for the consumer. However, the heat was that Verizon would've suffered extreme backlash from its long time legacy customers. The intent remains. It was to squeeze more dollars as possible from this loyal group.

Yes. Always trying to screw the customer. As a customer and former employee I know this better than most. I'm going to hold on to my three unlimited data plans until my very last gasp. It's not as though Verizon did this out of the goodness of their hearts. Verizon has no heart. Thank you FCC for standing up and reminding these guys about the conditions placed on their purchase of the 700 mHz spectrum they are occupying.
