Haven't they been doing this for years?

As I recall, I could have gotten a "T-Mobile" service extender that plugged into my existing internet service to extend my range in rural areas of California like the Santa Cruz Mountains since 2007.

Why the re-branding of a service they've had for years now?

I get that this is their own specific WiFi box now and not a piece of Motorola crap. But this shouldn't come off as anything new here...

$25 gets you a $200 router. Look up ASUS Dark Knight for more info.

According to the article a $25 DEPOSIT gets you the router. No additional info on if it will need to be returned after a certain time or if you will be billed for the remaining balance.

On T-Mobile's website, the $25 is a deposit that you get back when you return the router. I imagine the only instance where you wouldn't get the deposit back is if you somehow cause irreparable damage to the router or you cancel service and do not return the router.

Either way you get a great router, that you get to use as much as you want, and you're only short $25 temporarily.
