It's just fancy VOIP service basically. Both Sprint and T-mobile have it, and it works just as if you were making a phone call over the cellular network. I'm using it right now on my HTC One Max on Sprint.

Even though I get great service where I live already with cellular, I choose to use WiFi calling instead for the battery saving advantages, and to insure that I always have a rock solid connection.

So instead of connecting to a tower blocks away, with large buildings in the way, my tower essentially is just a few feet away from me at all times, with no obstructions in the way.
Why AT&T and Verizon are choosing to drag their feet with this is beyond me.

I recently visited a family member in Maryland whom lives far, far off the b...

One word...Money.
From a bloodsucking leech perspective, there's not much to be gained from offering wifi calling. They know exactly how much money they will make in that year or three by delaying wifi calling.
Most of their customers wont leave for lack of a feature they don't know about or really understand. In the meantime VZ/ATT can try to come up with the very best shady ways to monetize it, above and beyond simply charging for the "feature".

Download a VoIP app there are so so many and they work better than one supplied by any carrier.

Except for the built in WiFi calling allows you to use your cell number, it's free, and does text and mms as well.... all like you were on the Macro network.

I use it all the time on T-Mobile and it works great and the sound quality is amazing.

The only place i "need" to use it is where my grandparents live (NO cell provider works there), but i do choose to use the service from time to time.

It's funny when i'm there with T-Mobile rocking away using my phone and those with Sprint, VZW, and AT&T are asking me why T-Mobile works but their phone does not haha

Whether its about making money or not, its not a feature a large portion of people need.

I am not too familar with T-Mobiles policy on this feature, but Sprint wifi calling will not work if you are not suppose to get service to begin with (it logs the GPS location of the wifi).

AT&T and Verizon do not need wifi calling. The voice networks are so huge to begin with.

And I always tell people. A carrier isnt right for everyone. Stick with the people that are priced right you, and provides the service you want.

Friendcaller lets you link your own phone number to their caller ID using a text message as verification. I would highly recommend it.

Why would I do that? My T-Mobile wifi calling already can make/recieve calls, text, and MMS using my same phone number as it is.

You AT&T people knock this off, but if AT&T had it, i would have been still overpaying them as this would have literally solved every issue i had with AT&T

It is not a feature I would reject if it was offered to me free....but it is also not a feature that I feel like I need.

Well then let me give you a reason why that feature is worthless. I don't have internet service in my home. I use my phone as a hotspot, because I get 30mbps in my home. Why would I pay the cable company 50 bucks a month for slower speeds and then have to deal with their customer service. AT&T and VZW don't need that feature because they have such great networks. Whereas Sprint and T-mobile need to be competitive and need a little extra to fill in all those gaps they have in their coverage.

And if I lived in a place that AT&T had bad service I would just get home internet and a microcell for get coverage.

And battery savings? What battery savings. Is it the kind of battery savings that you think you get so you actually convince y...
