Catching Up

So Apple is making progress in its efforts to catch up to Android.....the problem is that in the next 12 months, new Android phones with new features will continue to be produced, while Apple will wait another year to update their products. It looks like every new feature and design that Apple is announcing were available on Android phones back in 2012.

And iOS 8.0 = Android 1.0

There was a time when Apple used to be able to make credible claim that a new feature they were introducing had never been seen before on any phone....now they are content just announcing that 'you know feature x you like on Android phone y? Now we have it too!' How long will iPhone users continue to be satisfied with that?

Oh what am I talking about, they...

Android 1.0 didn't even have a full virtual keyboard. And uh, yeah, willing to guess you haven't really used an iPhone extensively.

I guess you don't understand sarcasm. But lets be realistic for a moment here, when was the last time the the iphone actually innovated in something?

I've used and iPhone extensively and own apple stock and I'm not impressed by either iphone that's shipping. I'll just continue to use my iPhone 5 along side my HTC One M8. The screen sizes and resolutions have all been done, and are actually on their way out. Each phone manufacturer's flagship phablet devices are releasing with 2K screens going forward. 1080p is so 2012 at this point. And the 6 with barely over a 720p display is shameful. However the sheep will flock to it, and I'll enjoy my payday along with Apple for yet another year lol.

Sounds good. The best thing about it is that you don't even have to talk Apple up. The name sells itself.

Apple could totally just re-release the iPhone 5S with a new color and new name and still sell 60 million.

I sell cell phones for a living, and I activate iPhones for customers several times a week, I also activate Android phones and Windows Phones fairly regularly. The easiest to activate are the Windows Phones, followed by Android, followed by the gigantic clusterfark of difficuly that is the average iPhone activation...in fairness, the activation would not be so bad if not for the requirement to activate using WiFi.....if you didn't have to use WiFi, the activation would be much easier.

I also have customers coming in for technical support for iPhones....and I date doing them because the menus are not intuitive.

you havnt needed to use wifi for the activation in a couple yrs buddy. iphones activate over cellular connection just like android and windows phone, you can use wifi if you want but you dont need to. I also sell cell phones for a living, and i can tell you they are all pretty much excatly the same

That's true but i'm talking about activating pre-paid phones, I'm sorry I should have made that clear.

Specifically I am talking about activating pre-paid iPhones on Straight Talk, Tracfone and Net10...and pre-paid iPhones absolutely, positively, 100% MUST be activated using WiFi and cannot be activated any other way, because there is no 'cellular service' available until AFTER the activation is completed.

That's the funny way that pre-paid service works.

There is nothing to activating a post paid phone, you push a button the computer screen, service is activated, and then begi...

I'll begin by saying I think Apple are a bunch of jerks in how they do business. I'm not a fan.

So I've used both, Android and an iPhone. I've found that while Android is light years ahead in specs and features, my iPhone does a better job of doing what I need, without giving me grief.

I didn't want it to work out that way, I was a huge fan of the green robot. But after using Android for several years, I finally got rid of my Galaxy Nexus in favor of an iPhone 5s. It was annoying to learn at first, and I hate "the button". But I don't spend time fooling with my phone anymore trying to get things to work - I just use it.

I'm a software engineer by trade, and I guess when I'm not writing code, I don't want to spend time coaxing compu...

You're really comparing a galaxy nexus (a 3 year old phone) to an iphone 5s?

That's exactly what I thought....how about an apples to apples comparison...say the iPhone 5s to the Galaxy S5 or the LG G3....

I was trying to demonstrate a history with Android. For "apples to apples", I've tried a Galaxy S5, still had Android issues like before. Got rid of it in favor of the iphone 5s.

Let's just agree to disagree. Those who like Android, use it. I found what works for me and I'll use it.

In retrospect I knew shouldn't have posted here. :-/

What I think the issue is with Android, is the UI that manufacturers add on top of it. I used to love HTC sense, but it got boring with the HTC one m7, and I've never liked Samsung's touchwiz (or however you spell it). On that department I think that iOS has the edge, but if you compare it with vanilla android, I go for Android hands down. I currently own a Nexus 5, and I've never had any issues that people mention, and I love it. Last iPhone I owned was the 3Gs, so I really cant compare it to my current phone.

You can post whatever you want whenever you want. Feel free to state your opinion, that's what this forum is for.

Here's the thing: it comes down to the old 'liberty vs security' argument, Apple gives you great security, a locked down OS that runs smoothly with few problems, but the downside is that you don't have liberty. You can't do what you want with an iPhone, you have to obey Apple's rules.

Android has its hiccups, but those hiccups are the hiccups of freedom. You can do whatever you like with Android, Google won't stop you. The problem with this freedom is that sometimes things don't work as smoothly as they could if you weren't given that freedom.

It's like....would you rather live in a totalitarian police state w...

No you have it totally wrong. I have my HTC ONE m8. I have zero problems with it. There is no crashing...Actually I take that back before I updated to the newest software the camera would force close in low light if I didn't have the Flash on. I don't know why. Kinda weird. Updated and never saw that problem again. But I do have a custom rom on it so that is probably the problem.

Android phones have become so much more reliable, stable and secure over the years that the argument that iPhones are more stable is null and void at this point. Yes Android does allow you to do more stuff to it than iPhone. But if you want to put custom stuff on either one you can. Root the Android and Jailbreak the iPhone.

Well...I have a GS3 and a Note 3. I'm thinking of replacing that GS3 with the 6 PLUS if it has simultaneous voice and data on Verizon. I see nothing wrong with owning a Ford and a Chevy. It's my money and I own the phones. I'm not married to them.

Use all the Apple products you like...I'm not telling you not to use an iPhone, I'm mocking Apple as a company for claiming to be all about innovation and 'revolution' when all they are doing is copying other companies. If you want to use an iPhone, be my guest. I do in fact receive a bonus for the sale of every iPhone so I'll be happy to take your money from you.
