I don't get it and I never will

If anything, I find the white edges with the silver band obnoxious. It's a distracting contrast from the gray and whatever colors may be on the actual screen. I find it jarring and disturbing. The contrast with the rear cover is even worse. The color palette on this device is far from uniform or pleasing. If this is what a premium device is supposed to look like, I don't want one. Plus they gimped the specs back so far this isn't even a viable consideration for any power user. Samsung should stick to making powerful devices that actually do something. I'd be surprised if very many of these sell.

I think it will sell, its Sammy's "Premium" model, and the "premium" model always sells, even if its something as stupid as a champagne color they are calling gold.

They don't spec out this phone because they are still making a hefty profit by recycling their old hardware and keeping the cheap feeling plastic back, a top of the line spec'd phone doesn't make top of the line profits. I haven't held this handset yet but I have to assume based on every other samsung it still feels cheap. NOOB is one thing but then 3 months later the phones plastic back is creaking in your hand when you make a call.

The Alpha is gonna be the start of their latest turnaround push to show the market they are cool and can sell a premium device too, they've g...

That's the funniest thing though. They've ONLY gotten bashed by the " analysts " . The average person whom is actually going to buy Samsung products are, in droves. Samsung is and has been making money hand over fist while the " analyst" keep whining about metal frames and plastic backs. Its the same thing as critics bashing Transformers movies while they make a billion dollars worldwide. The target audience still loves them and pays for them. I don't own a Samsung because I'm not a fan of touchwiz. But I wouldn't not buy one because of a plastic frame or back, and apparently the majority of phone users agree since Samsung sells more devices than anyone.

It's not that Samsung can't sell phones with garbage build quality, it's that they could probably sell a lot more if they weren't such second-rate products.

And uh, Samsung sales/profits are heading towards the crapper because Huawei, Xaiomi, etc. can build the same crappy phones Samsung can for a lot cheaper while Apple pretty much owns the high end of the market.

And yeah, I'd like that my Galaxy Note's screen didn't crack due to body flex because I put it in my back pocket, or that the 'premium clearcoat finish' didn't graze within a week.

>>It's not that Samsung can't sell phones with garbage build quality,

Ummmm... their phones don't have garbage build quality. They have better battery life and hold up better to drops than the iPhone. It's Apple that actually has garbage build quality.

>>it's that they could probably sell a lot more if they weren't such second-rate products.

You must be relieved they aren't selling more. That would certainly spell doom for your precious Apple.

>>And uh, Samsung sales/profits are heading towards the crapper because Huawei, Xaiomi, etc. can build the same crappy phones Samsung can for a lot cheaper

Sounds like Apple has more to worry about than Samsung.

>>Apple pretty much owns the high end of the market.

If by "high-end"...

The complaint about screens is especially ridiculous. I sell phones for a living, people bring in their phones to the store every day, and I rarely see an iPhone more than a year old without a case on it which doesn't have cracks on the screen, and I rarely see a Samsung phone that does have a cracked screen, case or not. But regardless, when you are talking about a $500-$700 device that you plan to bring with you everywhere you go, not investing in a case to protect it from breaking, is stupid and is really just asking for trouble.
