Pretty soon we're gonna need a spreadsheet to cross reference all the different HTC One model's letter number combinations.

Please call the next One the Two or maybe the One and Two Thirds, keeping them all straight makes my brain hurt.

The iPhones are all numbered.
The iPads are given names iPad Air, iPad Mini w/Retina.The only dumb was the 3rd gen iPad when it was just called "The New iPad", I'll give you that.
The iPods are given different names, iPod Classic, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, etc.

HTC is just lazy and calling everything HTC One. I've had to refer to the HTC One "M7", HTC One Max, HTC One "M8", HTC One "M8" Harmon/Kardon edition, and now the HTC One "E8".

FIND A NEW NAME!

The iPhones are all numbered, but they are numbered wrongly. In what universe does it make sense to call the 6th and 7th iPhones 'the iPhone 5'? Or to call the 8th iPhone 'the iPhoen 6?' If you aren't going to bother to actually use the correct numbering, then don't bother numbering them at all.

Do you really need an to explanation for this?

What things in common do the iPhone 3's have - the 4's have - the 5's have?

YOU GUESS RIGHT, SAME BODY STYLE! They're not going to renumber a phone that on the outside, from a normal viewing difference CANNOT be differentiated from the predecessor.

You're trying to make something completely illogical sound logical.

The real reason why Apple called the real 'iPhone 6' the 'iPhone 5' was in response to the criticism over the real iPhone 5, called the '4S', that it wasn't the kind of radical revamp they wanted and that they were expecting an iPhone 5, not a warmed over iPhone 4, so many critics complained 'guess we have to wait another year to see the real iPhone 5', so Apple called the next one 'the iPhone 5' as a way of responding to their critics from the year before, it was their 'screw you' moment to their critics, the message behind the naming was basically 'you said you wanted a radical revamp, well here it is take a good look at it!'

It would be like Michael Bay responding...

Meaning new body style. I don't get why it took you numerous paragraphs to admit to what I said prior.

I know they are so lazy.

HTC ONE M7
HTC ONE M8
HTC ONE Max
HTC ONE E8

Samsung would never do that.
Samsung Galaxy S
Samsung Galaxy S2
Samsung Galaxy S3
Samsung Galaxy S4
Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung Galaxy Alpha
Samsung Galaxy Gear

How many things can you name Galaxy?

Apple would never do that.

Apple iPhone
Apple iPhone 3G
Apple iPhone 3GS
Apple iPhone 4
Apple iPhone 4s
Apple iPhone 5
Apple iPhone 5s

How many things can you call an iPhone geez.

I don't think you get. How many different models of the iPod touch are there? How many Nano's? How many Classics? They have the exact same name.

I guessing they're doing it like other manufacturers, (i.e. Samsung Galaxy S5, Nokia Lumia 925), 'cause they do have the desire phone.
