Here's where I get to rant again.

I like to check the battery on my phone every 4-6 months. When I noticed a decrease in the amount of time my phone was holding a charge, I was able to remove it and discovered swelling which is an indication of potential worse scenerios. I went to the store and While out of warranty, I still recieved a free replacement and was in an out of the store within about 5 minutes. No time was wasted during my busy schedule.

How long do sealed battery customers have to wait for this type of repair? And if not repaired, How much to replace the handset?

Heavy gamers and users should be more attracted to the idea of removable batteries due to the wear and abuse.

About 5 minutes if you go to a Genius Bar with an appointment, about 3 days if you mail it in.

Here we go again John. BTW you sir are awesome even though we disagree.

But I still don't care about removable batteries because I don't have my phone more than a year at a time. So I don't get battery issues.

Now I'm going to change my tune and agree with you. My wife is very tough on her phones. And she destroyed her Note 2. We haven't gotten her a replacement phone yet and so we are borrowing my little brothers. He had an original Droid Razr. Non-removable battery. Battery life is terrible. I am certain with a new battery the phone would be much better.

The probability of having a battery issue under warranty is around the 8% mark. For you to experuence a battery issue within 12 months, is slim. This is why battery replacement under warranty is no big deal for manufacturers and the few consumers that experience the issues. Low cost to manufacturers and generally free for consumers. That is the reason your perception is real and I won't disagree with your logic.

However, after tye warranty, the percentage climbs to 23% at 15 months and to 40% at 18-20 months. With only four months 6-4 months left in the contract, customers would have to buck up at least $150 for insurance claim to repair it or live with it. If the battery was removable, $25 dollars would buy you the remaining time left o...
