Way to swing for the fences with this, Samsung.

Its still better than the screen on the iPhone. So, is an HD screen not important, or are you admitting Apple cheaped out on a part?

I love how people can tell all kinds of things about prerelease phones, like its screen is or is not better than X. Well you don't really know that but you can assume based on the stated pixel resolution...mo iz betta....Oh okay.

I imagine they didn't go with a higher res screen because of the thickness and the cost, metal frame is more expensive than their old cheap crappy plastic backs.

Honestly that crappy cheap hand feel of samsung's is a big part of the reason I don't like them, is that a samsung or a ZTE in my hand? That and the the 6+ gigs of BS crapware they put on every decently spec'd handset... please can you use half my internal memory for the OS? Sweeet!

1920x1080 > 1280x720

No assumption on the screen quality, the stats are right there. Just as I would "assume" that a phone with a 5 inch screen has a bigger screen than a phone with a 4.5 inch screen. It's in the numbers.

Stop with the facts already.

But the point is whether there is really any noticable improvement in quality when going from 1280x1080 or even 1280x720 to 1920x1080, and I think that for the vast majority of people, the answer is a clear 'no', especially on a 4 or 5 inch screen.

>>I love how people can tell all kinds of things about prerelease phones

Yea me too. It's awesome when the manufacturers release the specs ahead of time so we can know what to expect.

>>like its screen is or is not better than X.

The screen was specifically criticized for its resolution. I think we can know if the resolution is better than some existing device or not.... derrrrr.

>> than their old cheap crappy plastic backs. Honestly that crappy cheap hand feel of samsung's is a big part of the reason I don't like them

That's a matter of perspective. Most people don't care. I for one love the design of my Note 3. Furthermore, most of you Apple snobs stick your iPhone in a bulky plastic case anyway. Kind of defeats the purpose ...

Well, it's not necessarily better than an iPhone, although it certainly is if it has a wider color gamut and can accurately represent sRGB space.

That said, this won't be competing against the iPhone 5/5s, this is going to be competing against the iPhone 6 announced in 4 weeks.

Hardly.. the GS5 and the Note 3 will compete against the iPhone 6. The GS6 will blow it away once again.

It's funny that people are calling it 'the iPhone 6' when it will actually be the 8th iPhone...or as Tim Cook once said in an interview 'I don't really understand how numbers work'

Say what you will about Samsung, but at least they actually know how to count....the Galaxy S5 is actually the 5th Galaxy S, not the 6th or the 7th.

Well, actually its more like the 253rd "Galaxy S", but it IS at least the 5th numbered Galaxy S flagship.

They use the word 'Galaxy' to describe pretty much all of their smartphones, but the 'Galaxy S' refers to one specific line of phones, of which there have only been 5 to date.

It's a trivial thing but it bugs the hell out of me, I have heard customers saying 'I heard the next iPhone will be called the iPhone 8, but that's stupid because they haven't had a 6 yet' and I just want to scream 'it is the 8th iPhone, of course iPhone 8 makes sense, what doesn't make sense is calling the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 7.....iPhone 5'

I count the 6 as #9

1. iPhone
2. iPhone 3G
3. iPhone 3GS
4. iPhone 4
5. iPhone 4s
6. iPhone 5
7. iPhone 5c
8. iPhone 5s (released at same time as 5c)
9. iPhone 6

Unless you count 5c/s as the same because of release date.

The iPhone 5c is like the Galaxy Mini, a scaled back 'economy' version of the phone to compete for the market in cheaper smartphones, I don't count the 5c as being part of the iPhone line, it's almost like a separate line of phones all by itself
